  • Who do you all use for broadband internet?

My ISP has apparrently gone kaput.
The last few days I cannot get on except at work. I called and the message was "our dial up service is presently down indefinitly"
So I do not know if they are out of business or what.
SBC seems to have a good deal on DSL. Maybe cable.

    Thanks.

I have Verizon DSL and have had it for over a year with no complaints or problems. $14.95 a month. Great bargain for DSL.

ugh, we have verizon DSL. i dont care for it very much, and its really expensive too.

usually i download 40-70 kb/s, but depending on the site i can get 100-150 (like off microsoft, nVIDIA, and other computer sites), however once downloading a game preview it spiked to 1.4 megaBYTES per second for maybe 4 seconds at the beginning (not megabits), im still not sure how it did that

from dialup to DSL there is a huge jump in speed, but after a whle even DSL seems slow (especially if you have a T1 or T3 line at work). although it does depend on computer and graphics speed as well

SBC right now has 12.99 a month. Then they have "pro" for 19.99 thats faster.

          We have RoadRunner.. Awesome..

I guess it helps that I work for Time Warner Cable, and I get it for free

I do not have Road Runner available here.
Whats funny is their office is 4 miles away .
Has to do with agreements to which city has what cable service. Mine is Comcast.

I have Mediacom (cable modem), I have been very happy with a cable modem, many don't like them but I do. In my experience fast and reliable but that can vary from location to location.

Qwest DSL, 7 MB. I'm only 3 blocks from the hub, it rocks.

I need to look where the hub is here too.

It had been a while since I have checked the speed so after I made this post I went back and checked it. It only came back with a 5.6 mb. I have seen it at just under 7 mb before. I'll look into some of my tweeks.

Check with your cable TV provider and see what sort of cable internet service they have. As mentioned Time Warner uses Roadrunner and I love it - far superior to the DSL connection I used to have. 5 megabits, always on, and it has NEVER been down in the 5 1/2 years we've had it. Well, except for when a storm took down a palm tree in the back yard and said tree took the cable down with it. T-W restored service later that day though.

If you have cable check with your provider to see if they have a package deal for both DSL and phone service that would discount the three.

That said...I still have dial up. I have high speed at work if I need to download anything to my laptop, but for home dial up is still fine. Why? I'm a teacher and I get dial up through the County Office of Ed for $40 a year. Yes...a year, not a month. So naturally.....dial up is fine for now.
