  • Snapfish for photos

This came with my new computer after doing a search it seems like it's a Trojan horse. They apparently want your personal info for free photos. I think I should uninstall it. I have not opened it up yet for my gut was saying be careful here. Anybody use it?

    Thanks.

Photobucket is also another great place to host your images. Completely free and very easy to use.

I actually wrote an article on the topic of using the the various free photo hosting companies and explained the exact problem they cause on our forum. I've copied and pasted it below for your consumption...

You can read the entire thread by clicking the link below,

Why PhotoBucket is a waste of time...

And here's the article I wrote,

Why PhotoBucket is a waste of time...

Or, why PhotoBucket and all of these other photo hosting websites are a waste of time...

Here's why hosting your photos at all of these other photos hosting websites is a waste of time from a big picture point of view... Check out the Non-Pictures in this thread...

All of the pictures hosted here on MOL are still showing up and all of the photos posted on Photobucket are missing, perhaps forever. It completely diminishes the value of the story as told in the thread.

Here's what the photos hosted on Photobucket look like,

Here's a link that will start by explaining why we don't allow members to Attach File, (or attach photo), on this forum and then to a couple of tutorials on how to work with images on this forum, but these skills you teach yourself will work on any forum and last for a lifetime. Plus... you could even show someone else how to work with photos on the Internet.

For most of my customers when I repair computers on the side, I always disable (with their consent) most of the software that starts up on OEM (Dell, HP, Toshiba) machines. This is because most people dont use them ever, plus they are a waste of system resources.

Start > run > msconfig > press enter.
            Startup tab.

Switch to Linux. Use energy efficient lightbulbs and appliances. Keep your car well maintained and drive easy to save gas. Eat less fast food. Call your mother and tell her you love her. Try flying a kite. Read a wikipedia article daily. Use Meguiar's.

and normally you have 84317583 programs starting at startup, 2 of which you want starting and free CPU power drops through the floor

all those dumb programs, i hate them. some are defiant and re-turn themselves on after i told them not to. dumb real schedule, real player (never used it but once), nVIDIA settings (because i change my graphics settings every day, of course - ya right)

mike, i understand what you're saying about not using photobucket, and the like. however, sometimes it is preferred to be seen as non-afiliated (if that makes sense). here's an example. i have 3 email accounts, 2 personal, and one for school. all official business is done through the school account (even though logging on is horrible a times) because having a @csupomona.edu extension is sometimes preferred to @yahoo/@gmail (possibly because the prefixes are less than formal). for the photos, when i post here, you can copy the link location and see its hosted at socalevo.net, which is great for recreation and informal stuff between friends, but sometimes it isnt preferred to show that i am tied to a car club (evos no less) or a corporation when sending pictures to certain people. if that makes sense. its just a matter of keeping your options open. like i use the socalevo galleries for 98% of my photos, but 2% gets sent to photobucket

You make a point, but to date you are one of two people that have posted a good personal reason for using Photobucket, (or something similar), while the majority of people are able to use an associated gallery for the forum they're posting to.

Again, it comes down to the bigger picture as far as this forum is concerned and the bigger picture is we want to try to avoid Red X's and/or images that look like this,

Part of the problem is what could be called the "lazy factor" and this will alway behind an issue thus the entire reason I wrote the original article in the first place.
