water restrictions!!

Just read that Howard County, Maryland (it is between Baltimore and Washington) is having an outdoor water usage restriction beginning May 1st and lasting until September 1st!!!

A 54" water main needs reworking where it leaves the Baltimore area and feeds our whole county.

Bummer. I was just getting ready to start scheduling complete details of my 2 cars since the last time using #80, etc. was in October.

Guess I will need to go thru the touchless spray wash place and then bring them home and just buff them out there. They let the commercial car wash places stay open since they recycle their water.

Anybody else dealing with water restrictions? I know their has been drought conditions in other parts of the country. If so, how do you deal with it?

When I was at one of the clinics at Meguiar's in Irvine, I suggested selling Quick Detailer in 55 gallon drums.

What you need to do is go out and get some rinseless wash. Basically you can wash your car without a hose. All you need is about 2 gallons of water in a bucket, a wash mitt, and a drying towel. Basically, you wash the panel as usual and then just go straight to drying it. Unlike regular car wash soaps rinseless wash soaps will not leave a residue on your car if you don't rinse them.

A few examples of rinseless washes are:

Protectall Quick & Easy Wash (usually available at RV centers)
Detailer's Pride 4-in-1 Rinseless Wash
Optimum No Rinse Wash

I own all three and did a review of all of them here. You'll get much better results using these products than you would going through the touchless. Plus they're great to use during the winter in your garage.

We've been on permanent restrictions down under for the last few years... a couple of days ago they officially declared one of our dams "empty".

Unfortunately that means no mains hosing, even for those of us that know how to use a hose to save water over buckets.

I do a proper full wash every two weeks using a watering can to rinse it, and every day I wipe the wheels down. Every other day I dust the car using QD (Waterless Wash Kit).

People are allowed to use bore water with hoses in the neighbourhood, but the amount of minerals in the water just make it unpractical for anything but the pre-rinse.
