  • What's the LATEST in the day you've ever started a detailing?

I got home from work tonight, all wound up, about 9:30. I checked my emails, and then, at about 10 after 10, I turned on the radio, picked up the CCD, and dusted the car; then I QD'd it; then, I applied a coat of wax (NXT). I walked the dog, did the top & wheels, removed the wax. It's now about 11:55 PM.

I'm sure I've started detailing my car (as in, started by washing or QDing it, finished by waxing it) as late as 11PM, but I'm not sure if I've ever started one later than that.

3AM doesn't count if you didn't go to bed afterwards. If you stayed awake after that, then it would be the earliest. And, I mean started AND finished.

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

I'm a morning guy......I'm lucky if I can stay up after 8 PM I started pretty early in the morning because I couldn't sleep. Maybe 4 or so

      I'm also a morning guy.

Tomorrow, (Saturday) I've got two BMW's to do for the same customer. I'll be at their house by 6:00AM.

I always thought it would be cool to offer my mobile detailing customers the option of having their car detailed at night. Hey, everyone is usually home sleeping, so scheduling wouldn't be a problem. Just need the proper lighting. Imagine the look on the customers face when they get up in the morning and get in their freshly detailed car. Now that's service.

I have been out in the garage at midnight, heck -- anytime is the right time to keep the car looking good.

It sounds as though I'm the polar opposite of many folks here in that I'm a total night owl.

Unfortunately, at this exact moment, I don't have great lighting in my garage but, I've been known to work on my paint at absurd hours at night.

Specifically, I can remember smacking a coat of #26 on my truck at around 3:30am one Saturday morning only because I was wide awake and had been busy putting up shelving in the garage. I was in 'work-mode' I guess you could say.

            Great idea!
I usually start at about 0500...the only way to do it very well in the deep south...
You think the neighbors would get pissed at my PC at 0300?

Just turn up the radio -- they will never hear the pc.

I detail for a few show car and restoration shops. For some reason they wait until the last minute before a show to let me at the vehicle. I usually have to start after the regular employee leave. I have started as late as 10-11 pm and polished until sunrise. That what happen with this car. This pic was taken at about 4am. It was on its way to barett-jackson auction that morning.

Hey for Barret Jackson it'd be worth it. Those lights they have on the auction block will make or break a car's paint job. I know, I've had a few cars I've detailed go across that block.
