  • Old Detailing Book

    Guys,

I'm stuck in the middle of a major Nebraska snow storm. Well not stuck on the road. Stuck in front of my woodburning stove looking out on my 40 acres of Nebrsaka prairie. Not at all a bad way to spend a day.

I have next to my computer the book that taught me a bunch about detailing -- "Ultimate Auto Detailing" by David H Jacobs. It has a 1988 copyright. Lots of the stuff in it still applies to detailing in 2006.

A suggestion made in the book: "... The ultra wax job for paints other than high-tech is two applications of polish, two of cleaner wax and three of carnauba. It will probably take two days to do the job, but the results will be brilliantly noticed...." I did this once on a 1986 K-5 Black Blazer. Only once.

It's sort of fun to relive the "good old days" before pc's and high-tech sealants.

Heh heh, yeah, I have that one too. It can be a fun read, but I thought some of its advice was lousy back then and I sure don't think it's any better today

The way he does everything with a rotary and wool pad seemed pretty ill-advised, what with foam pads and Cyclos being commonly available by then.
