It's been mentioned on here before but never discussed in great detail. What are everyone's thoughts on the new Bosch Icon wipers? These are "bracketless" wipers, meaning there is no metal holding down the blade. Basically, there is a plastic connector at the center to connect to your vehicle's wiper arm and that's it.
The connection is a snap, literally!
The packaging and website claim that the weight is distributed evenly...there is a spoiler on it to hold it to the glass. Also, since there is no bracket, it is supposed to "mold" to your windshield's shape.
I recently purchased a pair and have mixed feelings. The part that touches the glass works like a charm, wiping away 99.9% of the water. There are two problems, however. One is that the top end of the blade seems like it doesn't make enough conract with the glass, leaving a streak behind. This is maybe a quarter inch, maybe more. To make it worse, the contact area is shorter than the OEM blades so the "arch" is smaller, leaving a thicker ring of watermarks around the edges.
Secondly, the driver's side blade seems to sling excess water on to the passenger side. It's not a problem if the wipers are continously operating. But at the last wipe, the water stays there since the passenger side wiper doesn't make a return pass.
I paid $20 and $22 for the blades (20 and 22 inches). I think I should be able to expect more from a blade costing that much. Not that it's ridiculous amount, but they are significantly higher than the MicroEdge Excel wipers.
