  • Dennis Weaver Dies

Wow, have you ever noticed that when one star dies, another one follows close behind?

I have an episode of Combat! that featured Dennis Weaver. Course he was better known as Chester on Gunsmoke, as well as Sam McCloud on the McCloud TV series. He stared on Gentle Ben too.

It's sad to see all of these TV greats pass on.

We watched a lot of McCloud in our house growing up as Dad really like the show.

I remember him for selling Blue Corral's AUTOFOM with Fomblin A

I don't know about that, but one of my best friends when I was growing up, his Dad was a scientist for the Government with something like 9 things he invented/created and these tiles were supposedly one of his projects.

My guess is any coating applied to thee tiles would burn off during re-entry, so if their were any claims like this they were likely bogus.

My recollection was that the coating was to prevent water absorbtion when the vehicle was stacked on the launch pad, as that water would boil off during ascent possibly popping loose sections of tile. It was probably reapplied after each mission. Don't know if they still do that.

According to some info I found on the Autofom, the Fomblin A is a perfluoropolyether, which puts it in the family of fluorinated products (which vaguely includes TFE, to address sneek's question) which are highly inert, etc.

Funny all the air time these guys get on TV when they die and you rarely hear anything about the 2300 + serviceman that have died in Iraq.
