  • This website has made me realize something...

Ever since I've had a car, I've always been interested in a "clean" car. First it started out as a wash and a dry, then a wash, dry and a wax, then a wash, dry, 3 step, but now I've moved up to the DA.

With that in mind, I was at the first major import car show this weekend. With being an avid member here, I decided to evaulate the finishes of a lot of the top show cars at the show. Not to much of a suprise, SWIRLS EVERYWHERE! I evaulated some of the paint, without being to noisy, and almost 99% of the so called "show cars" were swirled beyond belief. I then went home and looked at mine, same thing (I was already aware of this)! So with the help of this website and my DA, I hope to remove them all before I start showing again. MOL has made me strive for that "perfect" finish!

It does amaze me as well, the photos Mike posted from the Barrett-Jackson auction just amazed me - you would think a show car/one up for auction would look its best including the condition of the paint.

agreed GB. And the thing that really really really gets to me, is that judges at the import shows don't take into consideration the condition of the paint. they only look to make sure it's not runny, hazing, etc. If you have a custom color your golden, cause they don't take into consideration the actual condition.

      which would you rather have:
      1) stock roma red paint in near perfect condition due to good care for your paint
      2) house of kolor candy apple red paint with swirls out the wazu.

      If I were a judge, I'd go with #1.

I can vouch for the photos that Mike took at BJ. I was there on Friday and found myself 'evaluating' the condition of the paint as well as the cars and trucks themselves.

Let's just say that most all could have used help from the people on MOL!

I would go with #1 as well. Sure #2 it might be a cool paint job, some may not even realize that it doesn't look all that good with swirls and may not even realize the potential the paint really has if it were cleaned up.

but the thing is most of the judges know nothing about paint and paint care so swirls may be seen as a good thing unless you go to sport compact nights because Meguiars hands out all the awards

Certain car shows usually cater to certain types.

I attend Waterfest - VW related show - and well....to be honest you are right w/ the swirl marks.

              but here is the trick:

add more modifications, add more show nick nacks (trophies etc), add more A/V, and hope the judges (and others) take their eyes off the bad stuff. hehe,

just kidding. paint is the most important for overall cleanliness got me 4th place in a 40 car import show where my 1992 galant was up against toyota supras with nice mods.

              cheers.

I am the same way. I've been seeing the swirls for years on everything! I remember going to the new Bently/Rolls dealership in Houston a few years ago. ALL THE CARS WERE SWIRLED!!!!!!!! $300k+ cars with swirls and buffer burn all over them! I about died!

I will always strive for the perfect finish at a show
