    (I average about 5 hours a day,
I'm on call 24/7 and usually get 2 or 3 calls a week during the middle of the night, so my sleep pattern is really screwed up...

Well, it's easy for me- I'm retired

There was a lot of sleep-deprivation at the U when I was teaching, seemingly more so than when I was a student. Some people could pull it off but others couldn't; bright students would have inexplicable brain-pauses (and I'd tease them about partying too much). I see some downright disturbing signs of it among our friends' highschool kids and among some of our friends themselves. Real quality-of-life issues Hope they look back and think it was worth it.

I can get that much sleep because I don't have a family. There has to be at least one advantage of living alone.

For work I'm on call during my off time, but a call happens maybe twice a year.

During wintertime (now) I tend to sleep a little bit more than during summer. Why? When it's still dark in the morning I have big problems getting out o bed! During spring and summer I have more energy and have no problems getting up earlier and enjoying the long summer days. To give some numbers, during wintertime I sleep 7 hours (I did sleep more before I went to Finland for 4 months, but there my pattern changed). During summer 6 or a little less is enough. During weekends I don't sleep much longer because it almost never happens that i'm in bed before 4 AM.

If i'm lucky i'll get 7 hours a day, but as i work nights its often interupted by door-to-door salesman offering me double glazing or telesales people phoning me up, turn the phone off i hear you say? i would but what if there is an emergency?

I had one bloke phone me up asking about mobile phones the other day, i just told him i was very happy with the 2 empty cans and piece of string that i had

It depends on what time of the year it is. During the summer it can be anywhere between 4 and 6 hours. Always working in the garage detailing after putting in 8 hours at the full time job and detailng all weekend. during the winter I plow snow along with the full time job. At times i've only had maybe an hour of sleep, when we're getting hammered with snow. like super bowl sunday and monday. If there is no snow then I might get between 4 and 7 hours of sleep a night, depends what I'm doing with the family.

Usually around 6-6.5 hours. I'm too much of a night person and detailing is a daytime job.

I try to get 7-8 hours of sleep. Sometimes less in the Summer.

I get too little as well. I love to sleep in on weekends.
