  • Just an update on my detailing

So I had my first experience with a rotary buffer today. It was going well but then I realized what everyone means by “burning” the paint. I just got done painting a Honda civic and wet sanded it with 800 1000 1500 and 2000 grit. My teacher gave me a buffer and a very dirty “cutting” pad. I was careful because of the warnings I have seen on this website. I set the rotary to 1000 RPM’s. I believe I was using 3M heavy cut compound. That stuff works well but I have a few “burn” marks. After that I used some sort of a glaze with a “polishing pad” and that went well. The reason I think I burned through the paint is that even though it looks smooth there is a rough spot where this burn is. There really aren’t any questions I have; I was just posting my first experience. So tomorrow I get to repaint the bumper. I am getting a lot of meguiars products for Christmas so hopefully Ill be able to start really getting into detailing. My dad made me a deal that he would buy me a PC polisher if I detailed his car. Hopefully Ill be able to practice on other cars before I do his. Well I am just rambling on, so I am going to go. Sorry for the useless post just thought I would leave everyone updated on my detailing progress. (I would post ics, but I dont have a digital camera) But ill try and get some pictures of my dads car ASAP

I took the Rotary Plunge last week myself. I detailed my thoughts in the following thread.
Well, I took the big giant leap today and put the Rotary to my trucks finish. Like several people have told me would happen, my thinkng is, "Why did I not do this before?". It is thus far going great. I a using a Makite 9227 with a 8006 pad & #82. After doing just the first small 2'x2' area I could tell

Don't mistake my enthusiasm for experience.
