  • New Car!

I finally got the dealership to work a deal that I liked. After 3 tries on various used cars I bought new. They had a 5 speed Fusion on the lot that just arrived last week so it wasn't hacked up by snow brooms/wash brushes yet. I had my eye on it since it got there and figured if I didn't buy it now it would be trashed by the end of winter. I was ready to plop down $40k on a BMW but after driving this, it was so much like the BMW I couldn't spend twice as much. This car is that good. Interior isn't as nice, but it's not filled with cheap plastic. It's filled with padded vinyl and is VERY tight. It rides very similar to a late 90's BMW, firm but smooth. I wish it came with a 5 speed 6cyl, but coming from a truck it was quick enough. The shifts are great with no slop and the clutch has some wieght, which I like. The engine has a very nice sound to it also....not to mention 31mpg.

I'm picking it up Wed. because I won't drive it without a clear bra (there's salt ALL over ) and I have to swap stereos and detail it. Color is tugsten silver, which looks like silver with dark blue and purple pearl in it. It should look really nice all done up. Interior is black, which is a bit monotone but nothing an alluminium trim kit can't fix.

Pics will be up when I'm done detailing it. It's winter up here so it's going to be the only time it will be clean until about April.

Here's a pic for those who haven't seen one:

Here it is. After driving it for a week, I can say I like it, but I would not pay any more than $19k for it. Loaded up these can go for $25, which is pushing into used 3 series territory. Unless you really want a Ford, I'd go for the BMW. But for under $20k I don't think there's a nicer all around car. It desperatly needs a 6 cyl. stick. Being based on the Mazda6, I have no idea why they didn't do this because you can get it in the 6. The 4 cyl. is good enough (VERY smooth), but when you factor in gas mileage, at 2mpg less and 50HP more, the 6 cyl is the better engine. From the overly monotone interior to the 4x4 wheel gap, most of it's shortcoming can be fixed in the aftermarket. Overall, I like it and don't regret buying it. People always stare at it and they can't believe it's a Ford.

BTW, this is after being driven home in slush. AIO/SG/#16 for those who are wondering. I'm trying to use all my Klasse up.
