  • WTB: Rotary in Phoenix, AZ

I'm interested in buying a rotary here in Phoenix. I've been deciding between a DeWalt or Makita.

Interested in seeing if there's a used one around, or one of similar quality. Just posting to see what some used prices are as I couldn't find any on craigslist and I'm not sure what a used one would cost or if it's worth it to buy new.

If you go to Autopia.com...in their classified section a guy had a makita up for sale...it was used..and only came with a backing plate. Was cheaper than new but didnt come with pads. Im not sure if he still has it or not. I THINK he even posted on here too...the post is probably down the line a little by now but i bet its still there if you look.

Also I spoke to a second guy who had a used DeWalt that he was trying to sell....i'll try to look up his email and you can contact him if you want.

Note these were not in Az (I know what you mean about C. List...I live in gilbert too and cant find anything on there either!).

Thanks for the listings, very interesting... It seems they're still competetively priced even after they're used.

I'd rather spend an extra $40 and buy a brand new rotary.

I'm not interested in having one shipped too me. I'm very cautious of used items, especially when I cannot test them first.

Ya i can understand that. Buying used chemicals or pads etc is one thing...but buying a machine is quite another story. Ive had good luck on here and other car forums when buying things...no one ever screwed me over...and actualy most times people throw in more than what they said they would...but i would rather a new one or be able to test a used one.

So what polishers do you have now?

I currently only have the G110v1, it's done me well but helping my friends buff their car I'm finding it's not cutting it.

I really wish I had a v2 so I could apply more force without it stopping. I feel my G110 stops too often from the slightest pressure.

Ah gotcha...so have you ever used a rotary? I only have the PC (original version not the XP)...and i feel the same...great machine...will get done what i need to get done, but wouldnt mind a little more power for corrections, would save a lot of time. Plus that way my sister and I both could have a machine so we could double up on that portion of the job.

Have you thought about a Flex? I was leaning towards a rotary at first as well...but have been rethinking it and I might just save up and get a flex instead...still not sure.

Re: WTB: Rotary in Phoenix, AZ

I only used a rotary once at the Meguiar's enthusiast session they had a month or so ago here in Phoenix. It was for a short duration, but I loved the feel of it and I really want to master the device now. It was fun!

It was a DeWalt, and I was originally going to go with DeWalt too but I'm thinking Makita if I have to buy new. Plus the DeWalt says it has to be lubricated every few months, which I can't do on my own.

I have the same idea as you; if I get a rotary, I can have a friend follow me with the DA and get things done quicker.

I thought about Flex, but eliminated it from my selection process. If I can get a used one for cheap I'm fine with that, but I'd prefer the other two.

Well you think ADS might have a BOGO for rotary's! ...ya probably not huh lol. Too bad you dont live closer. I like the makita too since its got a very low setting of 600 rpm...and has a slow start. I'm still a little hesitant to go with the rotary...I'm guessing you'd still have to have a 2nd machine for smaller areas and paint edges wouldnt you?

Try this link for searching all of craigslist at once, who might ship for you.

My makita rotary came from a pawn shop. Was under $75.00 and works great. I have been looking for another as a back-up.
