  • Meguiar's at AutoGeek Detail Fest 2011

It was that time of the year again when Detailing World moved to Southern Florida for a beautiful and sunny weekend. All the major companies were there and of course Meguiar's big truck among them.

With DA Microfiber Correction System launched not long time ago it was very expected that crowds will gather around to learn more about The Game Changer.

And the introduction/ presentation was done by Jason Rose, Meguiar's Field Marketing Manager.

After test spot presentation the vehicle's hood was badly swirled and scratched using the rubbing compound. Now everybody could witness and try what this System can do with defects like those.

Nothing left behind. High gloss restored.

Jason Rose also hosted a mini class on Sunday morning presenting the System and its abilities. Its disignated 60-minute frame got extended to almost 2 hours due to students' interest.

    Time for hands on experience.

Joe Fernandez (Superior Shine) using Optimum Opti Coat 2.0 to apply a permanent coating and lock the paint shine.

Final words from Jason Rose about The System:

    - Simple, easy to use D/A applied,
    - Easy to learn and master,
    - No swirls guaranteed,
    - No mess, no sling, none dusting,
    - Fast light to moderate defect removal.

What The System is not for:

    - Fresh paint,
    - It's not a complete replacement of rotary buffer,
    - Not a replacement for "high end" paint correction.

    Backing plate importance:

    - Using Meguiar's backing plates (with micro-hook technology) will provide maximum performance ability.

    D301 Finishing Wax durability:

    - Similar to M26 High Tech Yellow Wax.

    Recommended extensions to 3-step System:

    - D300 + favorite polish (M205 works great) + D301,
    - Initial rotary buffer cut + D300 + D301.

Great write up Greg! How did you like the event? Is it worth going to if you're from the other side of the country?

I didn't know that the MF coumpound (D300) is only for fresh paint. Mr. Mike Stoops also mentioned that M105 was designed for fresh paints as well and when M105 is used on older and dried out paints, the polish tends to vanish quickly. Will this problem also occur with D300 when used with older paints? I just like the fact that it doesn't dust and great correcting abilities.

            Thanks, Marc.

Sorry, I guess I didn't put it the clear way: The System is not for fresh paint. And yes, DA MF disc can be used with M105 but the cost is actually three times higher than when using D300, offering similar cut level. The cost factor was brought up by Joe Fernandez who's super experience with this System.

Detail Fest is a great event. There's so much so see and try out. Also you can get direct answers from all major car care companies present during the show. Also mini classes are great to attend and learn what interests you.

Let's clear up a thing or two here:

The DA Microfiber Correction System is designed for use on factory cured paint, not on a fresh respray. That said, we know some of you guys are going to experiment a bit - so we did too. The London Cab we corrected in our write up on the system was a repaint, and single stage at that. So why do recommend this system just for factory cured paint? There are just too darn many variables when you start dealing with repaints, the paints used in body shops are quite different from those used in the factory, etc. The success rate isn't going to be as high when used on resprays, so we can't recommend it as a primary use.

Same goes for M105, but sort of reversed. M105 was originally designed primarily for body shop use on fresh paint in conjunction with a rotary buffer and a wool pad. It's still great on factory cured paint, provided that paint isn't badly dried out as it can cause some issues with M105 drying up quickly.

So it comes down to success rate - if something is only going to work, say, 20% of the time on a certain paint type, we obviously can't recommend it for use on that paint because 80% of users would be very upset with us! But for the 20% where it does work, it's great! This is true for any product, as you can well imagine.

Shawn, I have the feeling by the time you graduate you'll be a CEO of your own business and your chauffeur will take you to Detail Fest and you'll be making loans, not taking loans!!
