RE: Barret Jackson - Scottsdale
I'll be there. The show in Scottsdale is definitely a one of a kind show. With the exception all of the rain, last year was a great show. Drop by the booth to say hello. I'm flying in on Thursday morning, and then back to the office on Monday afternoon. Then on Wednesday I'm off to a show in Indianapolis, IN.Jose Torres

Awsome, I'll stop by and say hi. I think I might only be able to make it out saturday this yea, but yeah it's deffinitely one of a kind show. And I totally have to agree with you on all the rain last year. All those nice cars rained on and driven through the mud. We had two cars that went through last year. One with absolutely horrible sand it repaint it paint, the other with decent paint. But I was up there with my final detail spraying the rain spots off of the cars. It was funny, there were all these cars that were much nicer than ours there going through where they did nothing to clean them up before they went through, and our ehh cars were clean.
We're running a 73 Mach 1 through for my dad's cousin this year. Nothing too spectacular though. We're hoping to have something good for next years auction though.
And unfortunately looking at the current weekend forecast they're showing a decent chance of rain most of the days the auction is going on.Still the rain last year didn't deter a record crowd.
Later,
Ricky

Well, I finally made it out Saturday. It started out being fairly mild, though nothing like the 75 degree weather we have been having up until this point recently. There were tons of nice and rare cars on sale, but a similar scene to years past.
I dropped by the Meguiar's booth and said hi to Jose Torres, who was very cool. I caught them right when it started raining horrifically out, so there wern't too many people around.
This car was deffinitely the star of the show.
This is the only existing example of the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept car. In reality this car should have been destroyed. They built these to run show circuits then scrapped them. It also has all these documents and schematics with it, they had a sheet on display as the final destruction order for the car even. It was also designed by Harley Earl. And the bidding on this was fierce too, the guy who bought it I think was prepared to pay anything it took to buy this car. Ohh yeah, the final price was $3,000,000... which means Barret Jackson takes about a $48,000 commission.
And another picture for everyone:
This is Hemi Cuda #2 ever built. It was a press car basically, which was built before the assembly line was built so it's a hand built real Hemi Cuda!
Anyways, I deffinitely had fun watching everything. I just wish we could get a Barret Jackson auction one of these years where it doesn't rain.Later,
Ricky

Hi Rick,
Thanks for posting these pictures. This is my favorite car in the entire world. The first time I saw it was in Gordon Apker's collection in Federal Way Washington, Gordon told me the entire story behind the car and how he tracked it down and then persisted for years to purchase it.
Gordon told me one of the reason's it was decided to destroy these cars and not build them was because they would compete directly against the Corvette. The first Corvettes had in-line 6 cylinder engine, (The Blue Flame), and this car had the Oldsmobile Rocket V8 engine, (350 cubic inches or around there).
I'm actually surprised he sold it. He also had the other prototype grill and front bumper for it hanging on a wall. Somewhere I have a ton of pictures of it as well as the rest of his collection.
Wow... amazing... I don't know what to say...

Holy cow that's a sweet car!
Here's a link to a few more pictures from barrett-jackson.com.
Hard to believe that it'd went for 3.24 MILLION!! Now, I just have to figure out how I'm going to have it shipped here to my house. LOL!

I agree Mike. I knew about the car, I had seen it on TV I think before and just thought wow how cool. Then when I was flipping through the Barret Jackson catalog about a week before the auction I couldn't believe what I saw. They had a display with the car with some of the original drawings, and even the order to destroy the car.
They did a quick interview with the buyer, he mentioned something about having an automotive museum in Colorado.
Rockpick, the sell prices on Jackson's web site include their 8% commission. So the bid was actually 3 million.Later,

Actually they take 8% on both sides. The buyer pays 8% and the seller pays 8%. The sell price is listed with only the buyers 8% added though. So I messed up my decimals, Barret Jackson would be taking $480,000 comission on this sale. $240,000 from the buyer, $240,000 from the seller. Doesn't that just make you sick.Later,
