I am located near Sinking Spring / Robesonia, Pennsylvania and am thinking about letting a pro detailer detail my car before I do it. Reason being is for the first time I'd like it done right. If there is no one near me then I will do it my self which is not a big deal b/c I have confidence in my abilities, but just figured grabbing someone who does this often (or for a living) would benifit me more.
I have a 1991 Ford Mustang GT. Orginal Oxford White, clear coated paint. I took off my side skirts and rear bumper and sold them and currently my new Cervinis Cobra sides skirts and rear bumper that I purchased to put on the car are being painted. I figured now with the pieces off would be a better time to do this. What do you think? Should I wait and put the parts on then get it done that way? With the parts off I figured more of the car would be covered, but then I hear that people even after getting a brand new car or painted benifit from claying and what not to removed fine particals. Expert opinion needed
The vehicle has been garaged for about 90% of it's life. The previous owner did glob some touch up paint on a few spots that really bother me. I read on some website's that you can lightly sand them down and fill them in properly, but it takes some time. I think the original spots were probably pretty tiny but it looks like he used a brush or something of that nature to put it on which caused a globbing look. I know people who use the tooth pick method and that works well.
The vehicle has some light oxidation on the door moldings. Yeterday I took some Meguiar's paint cleaner (Stage 2) to it since the store has no compound or nothing stronger. I rubbed it in for about a minute then whiped it off and it made the spot look clearer so with some rubbing compound I am sure it will come right up. Especially since the product I had to use is not has strong has the compound. I am looking at getting the vehicle Compounded and Clayed (if needed) along with a nice wax and buff. Pretty much the 5 step process Meguiar's talks about.
I am in no rush to get this done but thought I'd see if anyone was in my area and like stated above I thought perhaps having a pro do it for the first time would be better. FYI - This vehicle is mainly a summer cruiser so it stays garaged.
Please let me know if any forum member are in my area and what you think. If someone is in my area we can set up a time for me to come to you or vise versa to give me your opinion. If no one is in the area then it's no biggie I will just take my time and do it.
Thanks!
