a difference that i have spotted (from reading the covers) that GC is "self polishing", im guessing u dont have to use a polish with this.... NXT doesnt display this quality on the label, does this mean that i should be using a polish before NXT wax (and after NXT shampoo)??? if so, which should i be using?? colour boost or deep crystal polish??? I read the 5 step paint care, but from what i read you dont need to use polish before the NXT wax to get a good result.....

PS on a commodore with botannica mica (deep greeny/blue)

Dopey, do you have any pictures of your car? I would like to see that color on that car. I've never seen any pictures of the Commodore either.

To answer your question, I believe NXT is classified as a polish wax. So you can put a polish on before it, but you don't really need to. My GTO is Impulse Blue, and with or without a polish (#81 or #80) NXT looks great!

how abrasive is NXT and GC?...i like using them, but i also like the longevity of zaino...do you think i could put a layer of nxt/gc over zaino to top it off? or would it just sand it down with the abrasives?

          Hey jairook

          Welcome to Meguiar's Online

Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax does contain a slight amount of specialized cleaners. But I think many people confuse cleaners with abrasives. NXT is not abrasive.

I have paraphrased a post made by Mike Phillips on the the cleaners

Does Tech Wax contain abrasives? Good question. The answer is No. Tech Wax contains no ingredients that will scratch the surface. NXT Tech Wax is non-abrasive.

If you have some NXT Tech Wax, try this,

          * Pour a little dab out onto your car's clean finish.
          * Rub some between two clean fingers... feel anything?
          * Rub some between your finger and your finish... feel anything?

What you feel is a smooth, creamy liquid comparable to a hand lotion. NXT Tech Wax is non-abrasive, it will not scratch any car finish.

NXT does contain a specialized cleaner, how it works I do not know, the chemists don't tell me these kinds of things. If I use the word abrasive, people conjure up thought in their minds of gritty, scratchy particles. NXT Tech wax doesn't contain anything gritty, or any ingredient that will scratch.

NXT is non-abrasive. It does contain a very, sleight amount of a very specialized cleaner that enables it to eliminate very fine swirls and scratches. This is a good thing because it?s a benefit to you and to your car?s finish. If it wasn?t a benefit, Meguiar?s chemist would not include it in the formula.

            Hi jairook,

            Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Neither of these products are abrasive. If you have a bottle of either of these products, simply shake them up and then pour some out between your fingers... can you feel anything gritty or abrasive? The correct answer is "No.

Down below I include a link to a thread on another forum where one of the members posts,

Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax doesn't have any abrasives in it. I use it on my black Z06 and if it had any abrasives, I'd see it since my paint scratches just looking at it the wrong way.
A serious enthusiast that owns a black Corvette Z06 knows his finish quality pays attention to his results

I read posts on other forums where some people, for whatever their reasons, like to position this product in a negative light whenever they refer to it. This just isn't true and brings their credibility into questions.

Longevity is important, but there are so many factors that affect how long a wax will remain on the surface and protect the surface at the same time. Wax, or paint protectants, (even when their called, polish, if they protect the paint they are a paint protectant), are meant to be sacrificial-barriers in that the layer of wax will absorb the brunt of an attack or wear and tear and as it wears off, it's a good idea to re-apply more products.

Kind of related to both the cleaning ability and the lasting ability, is this reply I wrote in another post, which you might find interesting.

            Hi everyone,

Because there are so many different paint types, skill levels, maintenance habits, environmental and exposure variables, I find it hard to answer questions like this with concrete answers.

That said, here is something that surprised me the other day ago, the below is copied and pasted from a thread I was posting to on CorvetteForum,

            Begin copy and paste from,

            Can you Layer NXT?

As far as how long a wax will last goes, the above pictured Corvette looked pretty bad the first time I saw it, (the before photo), before we did the makeover on Joe's Corvette, Joe purchased some NXT Tech Wax and applied two coats with no prep work. A week later, he came by for something, I forgot what and showed me his results, I almost pulled my hair out! I needed some more before pictures that showed his Corvette looking like it did in the before picture, and that was horrible. To my dismay, it now looked pretty good.

I asked Joe to wash/scrub the Corvette down 2-3 times with Dawn dish soap before he brought it back for its makeover to try and remove the Tech Wax, he told me that when his dad saw what he was doing, (trying to make the paint look horrible again), he thought his son was nuts! To may dismay, even after a thorough Dawn wash, the finish still looked great.

In order to remove the wax, I scrubbed the hood down 4-6 times using some type of harsh solvent, followed by our All Purpose Cleaner, (which can be used for de-waxing), followed by 2-3 aggressive applications of glass cleaner. And when we were all done, and backed it out into the sun, it still looked pretty good, but we were able to get enough of it off to make the paint look like it did in the before shot.

Joe's Corvette with two coats of Tech Wax after being washed with Dawn. This photo has been cropped out of the original, and resized to 600 pixels wide.

Joe's Corvette after chemically scrubbing the finish with three different chemicals to remove what Dawn didn't.

(The below two photos are RAW photos. They have been cropped out of the original, but they have not been resized or altered in any way. These were taken with my Sony FD97 2.1 mega pixel camera because it's better at capturing cobweb-effect.

            Mike

            (end of copy and paste)

Different people get different results and most if not all people have a bias, it's just some won't admit it. Besides the topic of durability is all the other dimensions of the process and the end-result. If you get good results and you like the way your finish looks when your done, and the process to achieve these results was enjoyable, then you've probably found the right product for you and you're car. If not, then there's certainly no harm in trying new products.

going back to the basic question:

NXT does not give you the satisfaction you get from GC upon INITIAL application.

NXT will looked its very BEST only after 12-24 hours since you applied it.

Apply 1 coat of NXT and wait 12 hours or after the polymers have cured or cross-link, afterwhich you can apply GC on the other side, and that's the only time you compare NXT vs GC.

I prefer NXT (but not saying GC is inferior)

During the holidays, I've got the chance to experiment with NXT. I tried layering it albeit the chemical cleaners in it. In my case, NXT's mild cleaners does not remove 100% of the previous coats of NXT. I'm now on the 3rd layer and still noticing deepening effect. I'll try the 4 coat during the weekend and see if I've already achieved the maximum. Else, I'm gonna start a new thread for this. NXT applied the Zaino way!

                EDIT:

just to add, 3 coats of NXT on my silver metallic Honda CR-V creates a super liquid look which is hard to achieve on a silver color.

(I have preped the surface using #80 by hand)
