  • Disrupted the polymers???

This is a question that I'm sure the answer is fairly simple to.... so here 'goes.

I just put about 4 days work into my black truck and here's what i did: Wash, clay, DC 1, #9, NXT wax x2 and DC 3 to top it off.

I have used this combo before with much success, only this time I applied the first coat of NXT and waited 12 hours. Then the second coat, but I didn't wait more than 3 hours before putting on the DC 3.

Now, what I have is a surface that looks and feels wonderful, but if you look at it just right, you can see what looks like oily smears or something in the finish (but its in the circular pattern that I apply wax with). it almost looks like I forgot to wipe some polish off or something. It doesn't come off with QD or anything.

So my question is did I jump the gun to much with the DC 3 as to disturb the polymers of NXT from curing correctly?

I'm guessing that this is what happened, but if so, how do I fix it? Will another coat of NXT just use its cleaenrs to take care of this problem?

    Please help,

    Stevo

    Well....

After you apply a paint protectant, for maximum bonding/adhering you want to wait for a window of time for all the protection ingredients to set-up.

If you apply another product before this window of time you may disrupt, or move around/remove these protection ingredients.

It's not the end of the world, so take heart... as often times I can't wait for 12 hours, let alone 24 hours to pass before applying a second application of a paint protectant.

One thing for sure, after 24 hours, the polymers in NXT Tech Wax and M21 Synthetic Sealant set-up. Just try washing them out of either your applicator pad or your buffing pad...

To tell the truth... so far I haven't been able to do this....

      okay,

so what about my finish and the "oily smears"? I'm going to try just another application of NXT to one spot today, and see if that removes the DC 3 and hopefully the marks.

I would like to avoid staring over, becasue polishing takes forever on my truck.

      Thanks for your help mike.

In this season in my area, dew starts to form on the car in the evening. So the newlly applied NXT wax will become completely wet before 12 hours of curing.

Will this dramatically reduce durability of the wax?

I'm not a chemist, but from a big picture point of view, the answer would be no, at least not at any level you would ever notice.

Here's what I found last night. The addtitional coat of NXT wasn't enough to "clean" the smears out. But here is what it looked like last night after some dew had just landed on the fininsh....

So my next question is this: Can I use DC 1 to remove all of the wax, and re-apply the wax without needing to polish the truck again? I'm not sure how this works, but I would think that the oils from the polish would get absorbed?

anyway, just need alittle more help here.

I had some similar problems, but not as sever as yours. I waited a day or two then I wiped truck down with some MF towels. I was using megs #16 paste wax though. It was as if the wax didnt cure. I am in south texas where humidity is usually at 90% or more.

try wiping down again with a clean MF towel and see if some of the streaking goes away.

IIRC, DC3 is a carnauba base; that looks to me like the DC3 that hasn't been removed fully. I don't think QD will cut it, you will just have to apply elbow grease to get it off--after a while on there it will be like iron. Just make sure the surface is very clean before you start rubbing real hard on it.

Just off the cuff... from the patterns I see in the picture, it looks like you need to do a better job of applying and removing the wax. It looks like the wax was simply smeared on sloppily?

Not trying to be mean or anything but that's how it looks.

A good application of wax will have a pattern to it. The wax will be applied using a thin coat and worked in well.

I'll try to apply a coat of wax to the hood of our Pilot and take a picture to show what it should look like.

How did you prep the paint before applying the wax?

                  Clay? Paint Cleaner? Anything?

As much as people on other forums banty about how NXT is a cleaner/wax it's really not. It has a light amount of cleaners but not enough to even come close to being a cleaner like M08 Swirl Remover 2.0 which is a very light cleaner polish, or even our A12 Cleaner/Wax, which is a light cleaner/wax. It's just not that strong and thus any finish NXT Tech Wax is applied to needs to be in excellent condition to start with, or pre-cleaned and polished, and also clayed is a surface evaluation shows this step to be necessary.
