  • NXT new Wax better than Gold Class?

    Hi All,

I ve been using Meg's products for years, from the waxs, cleaners and polishers to the tire cleaners on my car. However to be perfectly honest Im really looking for a product to deliever that "TRUE" show quality finish. Especially on darker cars.

I have been using the Gold Class products on car for a bout a year or so and I m tempted to either change to the NXT Generation Wax or something even more high end.

How does this new NXT compare to products like Pinnacle or Klasse. (QUALITY WISE)

    Thanks

I can't tell you how many products I've tried looking for that perfect gloss for a dark finish. I've pretty much settled in on this.

I use Gold Class Wash, clay if needed, MPPC with a PC to clean the finish, #7 Show Car Glaze with a PC followed by #26 Yellow wax by hand. For me, there is nothing better on a dark finish. This combination never fails to draw comments. YMMV.

      Proph,

Let me be one of the first to welcome you to meguiarsonline.com! We're certainly glad to have you aboard and I'm always happy to see another Kentucky face. Where in Kentucky if you don't mind me asking?

Also, you bring some very good questions about NXT and its comprability to Gold Class and others. NXT, as you know, is one of the newest product that Meguiar's has released and has caused quite a buzz in the industry. While Gold Class is an excellent product and offers incredible depth and shine, I don't feel that it's a fair comparison to NXT. The shine, depth, and durability, in my opinion, are unsurpassed by anything that I've tried (Gold Class included). Also, if you have very slight imperfections in your finish such as very light swirls or similar, you may find that NXT will illeviate those blemishes restoring a factory fresh look. If NXT isn't able to remove your problems, a different course of prepartory action may be necessary.

There are a great number of very high quality products out there on the market. In my opinion, NXT tops the list, hands down, and has raised the bar on the competition to another level.

Thanks for the warm welcome and reply. That really helps out now I am pretty excited to get a chance to try that out, it was either going to be that or some Pinnacle wax which is about 69.00 a container..

One more question if I want a personal RX from one of the pro's here should I post a picture of my car?

        THanks

Ahh, Lexington. You're just a stones' throw away!

Again, just a personal opinion but, I'd definately go with NXT as it has done some incredible things; not only to the detailing market but to my personal vehicles. I didn't think that I could bring my finish to another level and NXT provided me that avenue.

A personal RX Perscription is a great tool to get a general glance at suggested products and use for your particular environmental area as well as expectation outlook for your vehicle. They can be easily obtained from Meguiar's Customer Service by calling 1-800-347-5700 or by logging onto meguiars.com. I'd certainly recommend doing this to anyone that takes their vehicle's finish very seriously such as yourself. Best of all, it's free!

As for the 'before and after', if I have some time one of these years, I'd love to do it! Mind you, I'm not cheap. LOL!

            Proph,

For me, I'd rather point out the differences between products, and then let the user decide what is "better". If NXT was "better" in every situation, then why does Meguiar's still manufacture all those other products?

What NXT does BEST is combines the shine of polymers with the wet look of waxes. It is a really impressive look, believe me.

HOWEVER. Each of the other products can do something better. #20 is more reflective. #26 is wetter. Gold Class is darker. The cleaner waxes are more economical. #16 has an impressive look all its own. So does MPPP, which I would also bet lasts longer in some adverse weather situations. ColorX is better at restoring weathered finishes.

They are all chemical tools, each slightly different.

Based on what you posted, I would recommend either NXT or #26. I personally prefer #26 on my single stage red. Here's an analogy.

When I used NXT, I couldn't stop looking at the car. It looked great. It looked reflective. It looked wet. It looked dark, and deep.

When I used #26, my heart skipped a beat. It looked right.

Souveran is a great product, and so is Klasse. I'd flip a coin on #26 or Souveran; they're different, but equally attractive. Klasse is very, very reflective, without giving up much in the way of wetness.

I have enough Souveran Paste and Klasse to last the rest of my life and I use Meguiar's finishing products probably 10 times as often, so it's not a matter of cost because the money's already spent.

I'd like to ask another question, one that I hope can help lead you to your own answer; what is it about the finish you are getting that you consider NOT show quality?

Pic of my car with #26:

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

              Mosca,

You bring some excellent points up about why each product is very different and has its own unique characteristics. Further, you seem very similar to me in that you love the look of #26 but also love the look of NXT.

Question for you; have you tried topping NXT with #26?

                Wow,

                A vast amount of information.

To answer your questions, What I am really looking forward to in both of my cars is that DEEP, DARK and reflective look. As if the car almost has a "SUPER GLOSS" paint job ya know? I want my black to look wet and new but also to be a true black and not grayish.

I cant wait to get to try the NXT WAX. I have a buffer, several meguiars ingrediants from before but I think they were just an advanced consumer set up. They were a 3 step process in red bottles and not really the toupes. Nothing really special.

I have 2 cars that spend most the time outside and they are both black. There are late 90's autos and both have about average paint jobs.

Meguiars RX suggested I use alot of the MIRROR finish products or the Mediallions.

Please keep the advice going. I have the day off tommrow (today rather) and Ill post some pictures you guys can suggest what I should use? COOL?

                Thanks

You did a great job of keeping that cars RED a true red instead of a pink faded color like most people.. I like it.

Welcome aboard -- i have a black Mustang GT and have used Gold class [excellent results] but i did try the new NXT and i do like the NXT better. The shine is outstanding and i get alot of praise over the finish. Everyone asks what i use and how i get that shine.
Try some NXT and see what you think.

Funny you should mention that; here's a "before" pic. It's a different camera, and that's part of the difference, but still 'n all, you can tell. It's NOT a repaint, though.

Based on what you say your goals are, I'll make a "show car" suggestion. Instead of WAXING your car for the show, do a coat of either #7, or #81. THese glazes are the true "beauty products" in the Meguiar's line. When you wax over top of them, you actually TAKE AWAY from the phenomenal glossiness, deepness, and wetness of the glaze. These are true "mirror glaze" products.

If you are NOT taking your car to a show, then lay down the #7 or #81, and apply your wax (#26, NXT, or GC) over top of it. You'll keep about 80% of the glaze's look.

That's the "trick of the day". Trust me, it works.

Mosca, thanks for the pictures, a friend and I were just talking about what to use on her Miata and I think those pictures solve our problem.

That is by far the most beautiful red MX-5 I have ever seen. Great work.
