What's this GOLD CLASS CLEAR COAT PREP & SWIRL REMOVER?!

I've never seen or heard of it before. Is it an Australian variant of a US product?

It's quite inexpensive for Australia, though.

It was a very light cleaner/polish for primarily use by hand to use after washing and claying and before the waxing step.

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.

Is it a chemical cleaner only?

I assume its been replaced with something else...what's the closest replacement?

I love that product and hate that they discontinued it. I bought every bottle that I could find when I heard that it was being pulled. IMO, it is like mixing DC#1 and DC#2 in one *easier* to use step. It is fairly mild and IMO has the ability to remove minor marring. I find that most of its cleaning ability is chemical???

In my first reply I stated I thought it was a cleaner/polish. Think about Meguiar's cleaner/polishes... Meguiar's pioneered the use of diminishing abrasives as a way to clean paint and remove defects without scarring, scouring or scratching paint. We've been doing this since our first products introduced in 1901. That pretty much makes us the leader.

Now a days, everyone and their brother is coming out with some kind of swirl mark remover, if you look at their products and their descriptions on how they work, you'll note that they are doing their best to duplicate what we've been doing for over 100 years.

I assume its been replaced with something else...what's the closest replacement?
I cannot talk about Meguiar's formulas, just like you won't find any other manufacture sharing the ingredients in their formulas. That said, this product, GOLD CLASS CLEAR COAT PREP & SWIRL REMOVER, is a product formulated to help people clean their car's paint by removing fine swirls, surface blemishes while restoring maximum clarity and gloss.

If you read this , I think you'll find the Gold Class Clear Coat Prep & Swirl Remover to fall into the Step 3 Polishing in the cleaner/polish category.

          Hope this helps...

I don't know why, but this stuff was a pill to get off for me........DA or Hand.

When I did manage to get it off, it left a nice clean area to work with though.

In my tests with it, I'd say it was a step above Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner #1, and a step below Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner, and Body Scrub.

What ever happened to Body Scrub, BTW?

Did you let it dry completly before removal? My bottle says to and I had no problem removing it in this fashion.

It's been a few years since I've used any of it, so I honestly can't remember if I tried to let it dry or not.........Maybe that was the problem?

I still have a bottle of it.........I'll give it a go next time and see what happens if I let it dry.

But the main problem that I was having with it, was that it tended to want to gum up while I was trying to work it in........Could it be that I worked it too long?

I have never had that problem. I typically apply it with the PC with a polishing pad at 4. Maybe it is like scratchX which *can* gum up when used via machine.

I have a customer that LOVES the Swirl Prep. If anyone has some they want to get rid of, let me know!

I wish that Meguiar's would make a cleaner that matches up directly for Gold Class, and another that matches directly for NXT Tech Wax. They did this with Medallion, and it was a hit. Doing so takes the guesswork away for the consumer, at the same time allows for an easy sale from a retail standpoint.

Maybe someone in marketing could slip a sample pack in the wax package.

Or... in the case of Gold Class Paste Wax... Wouldn't it be cool to have a lid in a lid that contains the actual Swirl Prep (a small amount)? I know that people generally prefer a small metal can for their paste waxes, but a special lid would be a neat way to introduce the product to a new user.

                    Just a thought.

I have about 1/3 of a bottle left, but it is about 5 years old, and has broken down some.

I have used some of Meguiar's products in this condition before (Medallion, #26, etc.), and have gotten some good results with it, even though the product had separated.

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

                          Guys-
Thanks for the quick responses! I am looking for NEW packages if possible, as I would be reselling to a customer that will be storing the product for quite some time (as he already has a small arsenal of the stuff).

Again, though, this just shows how helpful MOL Members can be. Thanks again!

We have a Meguiars museum close by here..........I'll check with them and see if they happen to have any on hand.

Are you paying more than the list price for this product?

Sorry Mike, I didn't imply I wanted to know anything cofidential about the formula.

I meant, what's the closest in function, not ingredients. For example, now that #16 has gone to wax heaven (from where it probably originally came - its that good!), it's suggested to use NXT paste...totally different formula, similar function.

I guess what I'm asking is how aggressive was it, to find its contemporary functional equivalant.

I've read elsewhere that it was more abrasive that Body Scrub, but less than ScatchX...but I'm not sure if that's accurate...thus, my question.

Rusty Bumper, from what I've read, its meant to be applied by hand, not PC, much like ScratchX...gets unpredictable by PC. Also, your observations on comparitive products are helpful. Thanks. BTW, what's the Meguiars museum?
