  • Insane Tire Coating & Acetone and Hexane

I picked up some of the "NXT Insane Shine Tire Coating". It comes in a spray can and the contents, listed on the back, mentioned "hexane and acetone".

Are these two chemicals safe to use on tires, and are they safe for users to come in contact with?

    Thanks in advance!

These products are used as propellants and evaporate within seconds. There is nothing to worry about. Sometimes you just need to have confidence in not only the name on the bottle, or can but also the chemists, they take all these concerns you bring up into consideration.

I agree. I have had no problems with the Insane Shine either using it indoors or out. And it causes no problems with the paint if you should have any overspray on a windy day. Hot Shine also contains acetone and it has been fine also.

Thanks for the information. I did not think there would be a problem, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

It never hurts to ask. There was a thread about this on another forum and not one of the people in the thread considered the fact that acetone evaporates very quickly. It's used as a propellant to transfer the good stuff to the tire so you in essence don't have you use your hand, it's a convenience thing.

I myself like using aerosol tire dressings because it places the dressing inside all the grooves and hard to reach areas of my tires that can sometimes be a struggle by hand. The thing I try to do is either apply the aerosol dressings when our cars are in the garage or there is low wind. (Garage works best as where I live it's quite windy most of the time )

I like Insane Shine, but my eyes and throat get very irritated. Do anyone else have the same issue?

No, but I have noticed that using the Trim Detailer and Hot Tire Shine aerosol in my garage created a disturbing fog, then it later "rained" down over my entire vehicle. I wish Meguiar's would make a non-aerosol version of Trim Detailer. I think they did once, but I cannot find it anywhere.

                ... Trim Detailer

... Actually, they do make a non-propellant version. It comes in an all black plastic bottle.... I'm sure Mike can get the item number - I just don't have a bottle handy right now. It does work pretty good though.....

Yeah, I found it on the Meguiar's web store. It didn't use to be on there. I am definitely going to order some and give it a try. Is it the same stuff, just non aerosol?

You're not supposed to sniff it!

Seriously, have you considered wearing safety glasses and face mask if it bothers you that much?

Yikes, that sounds alarming. Why not just switch to #40 or something like that?

I like the product so much that I actually do use chemical goggles and a respirator when I use it. Customers look at me funny, I just told them that I always use a respirator and goggles when I use aerosols.
