  • Is GC for me?

I have a black car. The paint is in pretty good condition, for a car that is never garaged (don't have one) and a car that is driven on a powdery, dirt road every day. Would Gold Class Clear Coat Liquid Car Wax help repel some dust? Does the wax need to be re-applied montly to maintain the shine and waterbeading? I just applied a coat of Nu-Finish, and am looking for a wax to top it off with.

    Thanks.

GC would be one route. I like it on black paint. It has a nice shine to it. However, if you like water beading, it is not a formula that really beads water but rather sheets it off the finish. GC to me is more of a show car wax. If you are just wanting protection with a good wetlook, you may want to try Deep Crystal Carnauba (DC#3). It beads water like crazy and provides good protection for a daily driver never garaged. The beading action lasts for a while, and you would probably need to reapply every 2-3 months (4-6 times a year). NXT wax is the latest, and many folks believe it is the best thing since sliced bread. It would probably work well in your situation also. All three would be good choices and all have pro's and con's. It really just depends on personal preference and a well prepped finish before you wax. I don't know of any wax that will repel dust from a dirty road. How often you need to wax depends on your environment. Since your vehicle is never gargaged, you probably need to reapply a wax atleast every two months.

Thanks for the reply. I think I know what I need to use now, considering my options available.

You may get the results you are after with a couple coats of NXT. In addition you may want to invest in the X1180 body duster for daily maintanence especially if driving down a dusty road is a daily routine.

I have two California Car Dusters. It is too dusty (especially now) to effectively use them without scratching something. I think what I might do is get the clay kit, a glaze/pre-wax cleaner, and some NXT. Go over my car with the clay, then the pre-wax cleaner, some NXT, then the GC Liquid Car Wax. Does this sound like a good procedure? I don't think that the car has ever been clayed. Most likely needs it.

Also, after I apply the NXT, how long should I wait before I put Gold Class on? Or can I go right to GC after applying NXT?

            Thanks

Personally, I would either pick the GC or the NXT and use just one for a last step wax job after surface is prepped. If you use both, I think you would just be wasting time and effort. Two light coats of NXT would probably do the trick. The NXT gives the paint some depth with gloss but generally has a wet-look to it. The GC is more of a high gloss (shine) finish. Both are good waxes, and it comes down to personal preference. I would try both side by side on the hood to see which one I prefered.

I am just gonna stick with GC then since I got a bottle of it for free. Just some questions now:

                1. I am gonna try to wax it every month once I get it all cleaned up. Is this alright?
                2. After I do all of this, I already have 2 bottles of Eagle One Wax-As-U-Dry, a bottle of Eagle One Quick Detailer, and a 1/2 bottle of Eagle One Bucketless Car Wash. Could I continue to use these? I don't really want to "shelf" them as they are almost brand new.

Sorry for all of these questions and Thank You.

Dump the bucketless carwash, unless you like swirls. I used the WAUD, but have since found better products that don't leave that film and plasticy shine. The detail spray is pretty good though. In the end it's up to you, if you like them, use them, if not, dump them.

Once a month with the GC sounds like a good plan to me, but I would not use the bucketless car wash = swirls. The E1 detailer would be fine, but I would probably quit using the wax and dry. Just my .02.
