  • 81 and NXT.. revisisted.

Ok, I don't post much here, but I often visit the forums and forward others here to learn as well. But now I need some help.

My Pearl Blue LS has some pretty nice paint, and although my time is short, I enjoy cleaning it and producing an excellent shine. I have to date only used NXT Liquid Wax, and ocassionally a clay bar with favorable results. But after reading the forums, I learned I was using it wrong. I thought you were supposed to buff.. and I was.. but shouldn't have been!

I decided to take my care to another level, and got some 81. Now, I was intending to clean my baby, then polish and wax. But upon a search in the forums, I read where someone wanted to polish, wax, and polish again.

I didn't see much in the form of replies other than Mike saying it should be fine. But I'm not looking for fine. I want a bad-*** wet shine!

Is this adviseable to do? Anyone do this and like it? Or should I just polish and wax?

If you haven't clayed recently start there. Since it sounds like you have maintained your vehicle quite regularly I can hand apply #81 and remove, you don't have to let the polish haze like you would a wax. After #81 apply the NXT allow to haze, then remove. In about 12 hours you can apply another coat of NXT for optimal results. Polishing after wax will remove the wax underneath, essentially removing the work you have put into protecting the surface.

I will also mention that for protection, you would want wax on top. The reason people would put polish on top of wax is to improve the looks for a show car, or a display car, etc. That polish will wear off quite quickly if it is out in any weather, not leaving much protection. Same reason some people with show cars never use wax on them, just polish.
