Well, with the holidays coming up, a lot of people might be thinking about the DA Power System for a gift as well. If a friend or family member already has a drill, could make for a great option if it is easy to use. So I was able to try out the DA Power System and see what it was able to do.
My dad's car has a few different defects on it that I wanted to try working on. The roof and trunk have some very deeply etched water spots. The hood has been replaced with the help from a deer, and so does not have the water spots, but does have swirl marks from the dealer.
So I tried to work on both things, and see how easy to use the system was.
Here is the size of the system when attached to a drill, and how it fits in your hands to use.
As you can see, it is not that big or awkward, and is easy to hold and move around the car.
As you can see, I am working on the hood. Here is a picture of the surface, where you can see how deeply etched the water marks are. After several passes, you can see that there are no swirls present, but the water marks are just too deep for the system to work on.
The hood however has more normal swirl marks like many people would have.
Since I was visiting, and sun was going down, had to work quickly on the hood. I was able to do passes with the Ult. Compound and red pad, Ult. Polish and yellow pad, and Ult. Wax and black pad very quickly. With the size of the pads, the only thing I had to watch was to overlap passes and move slowly. Just for cleaning or waxing, it wouldn't be too big of deal as long as the passes overlap. However, for defect removal, it is important to move slowly, and sometimes you feel like rushing a little to cover more area.
I'm not sure if it shows up well in this size of a photo, but you can see the smudge of product that was the border of an area I worked on. Below that smudge, everything looks clear, however in the bottom half of the photo, there is some glint off some swirls that were not worked on yet.
And then here is another angle of the hood, where you can see that the glint off the swirls shown earlier is all gone. And just some orange peel that is still there.
So, when being used with mild/medium defects, the DA Power System was easily up to the task.
For anyone tired of working by hand, or perhaps not physically able, it is really easy to apply the products and do the basic steps. You'll get a lot more cleaning ability from things like cleaner/polishes or cleaner/waxes, which would be great for someone who works on their car just once in a while, and needs the extra dirt removal ability to get the paint clean and shiny. Waxes will also be applied much thinner. Just have to make sure to work with a little patience for defect removal.
