  • New RV Care

Have purchased a new travel trailer with gel coat and I want to start off right on taking care of the exterior which wasn't done with the old one. Could use some wisdom concerning when to start applying what is needed since it's new. Right away or 6 months etc. and how often. Also what would be the best product for UV type protection since it will be outside year round.
    Thanks

    Re: New RV Care

On mine....it has full body paint, I just use a regular car wax (Liquid Glass, as it lasts forever). Do it once a year cause I get lazy or busy .... should aim to do it both in the spring and the fall before going into storage.

What type of trailer is it? Are all the sides flat?

I would start off by washing the whole RV including the roof. And then apply a marine/fiberglass wax to the finish. Meguiars makes a couple different ones to choose from. The Flagship wax is pretty good as well as their M50 Cleaner Wax. You want to get a couple good coats on it especially if it sits outisde year round.

Hi Gary, and welcome to MOL!

Get a coat of wax on that RV right away - no need to wait at all. Our Flagship Premium Marine Wax would be our top recommendation as it's formulated for gel coat finishes. We suggest applying a couple of times a year at least, and/or using D156 Synthetic Express Spray Wax regularly to keep the protection at a very high level.

For a vehicle as large as an RV D156 is a great way to keep the protection up. Being a synthetic it's surprisingly durable, and being a spray on product it's super easy to apply. If you dispense it using a quart sized hand pump sprayer you won't be pulling a trigger constantly (trust us, this gets really tiring on the hands when dealing with this much square footage!!) and all you need to do is wipe it with a clean microfiber towel.
