  • Bug Splatter Sponge review

Customer had some nice bugs on his grill so I was eager to try this out.

These are little thin foam pads with product already in them.
I used then as directed. Basically, rub it on the Dead bug Carcases.
It worked great, didn't smell and looks like a great consumer products or for a pro just to have when you come across those nasty grills. Ever had one of those Bee massacred cars?
So if your going on a long drive I'd defiantly carry these with you.

I would recommend washing the car first and use these Bug Sponges on the left over carcases.

    Here's the pics.

The box comes with these little pouches filled with fun.

    Lot's of carnage

    ACTION SHOT!

    Yummy stuff.

Sorry I didn't get close ups but I was in a hurry.

I was wondering how good they work. At first I thought it was like a liquid that you applied on the car. Then for a closer look at it and saw that it was a sponge. Good idea to have something on a trip. Car looks great!

its wierd that this exact foam pad comes with (white wax)

and i used the non foam side which is pretty much aggreasive on my white single stage paint and it did very good removing oxidation and bringing back gloss

anyway will this aggreasive side of the pad create swirls on other types of paint?

when u used it did u see any swirls ?

Good for quick touch ups & nasty bugs I would imagine.

Sort of a single serving clay bar for bugs when you are out and about? I know it's not clay, but definitely an interesting idea for when MF + maintenance product aren't quite enough.

                Re: Bug Splatter Sponge review

Was at Meguiar's earlier this evening, for the Thursday Night Open Garage when I came across a box of these things.

Had ridden up Angeles Crest this past weekend on the motorcycle. Beautiful spring day so I picked up a good sampling of bugs, squishy ones, hard ones, large ones, small ones, you name it, it's carcass was plastered on either my windscreen, front cowling, headlights or helmet visor. Temperatures in the 90's today in L.A. so what was left of the little mutts baked onto the paint and plastic.

I had just begun to wipe down my bike with the some Gold Class Quik Detailer and noticed it wasn't taking the bug mugre off the front of the bike, so I went into the garage to look for some Ultimate Wash and Wax or something with a little more power than the QD. That's when I came across the Bug Splatter Sponges. I had never seen it before, so after quickly confirming it was indeed for removing bug splatter (duh!), I tore open the envelope, pulled the sponge out and began wiping off bug splatter.

It did remove the splatter that was left in the area I had already gone over with the QD. But it was flashing, i.e., leaving a visible haze or film behind, because I was doing this in direct sunlight on a heated up painted plastic panel. So I rolled the bike to a shaded spot, let it cool down a bit and went over it with the bug sponge again. Cleaned off that baked on bug crust really well, usually on a first or second wipe. A couple of of spots I had to lightly scrub a bit, but that came right off too and easier than I had expected.

Someone asked how it was working and I said great, just that it seemed to be leaving something like a clear residue of some sort behind as the cleaned area wasn't as slick as the surrounding area. I was just about to mention it would probably clean up with some QD when someone actually read the package directions and confirmed wiping off the bug crud should be followed by washing or a quick detailer. So read the directions people, for maximum effectiveness.

This stuff works. Cleans baked on bug detritus from a variety of surfaces, with no apparent damage. The matte powercoated lower forks cleaned up without looking shiny or splotchy. The painted plastic of the cowling and the plastic lens covers of the headlights cleaned up without scratches, swirls or hazing. I had used some Ultimate Black on the hard rubber/vinyl backs of the mirrors a few weeks ago and the bugs wiped off without disturbing taking off the Ultimate Black sheen. I was hesitant to use it on the lexan windscreen, thinking maybe those hard bug exoskeletons would grind scratches in to the surface, but nope, with some light swipes and light scrubs were need, the windscreen cleaned up just fine with no visible damage. In fact, I was so pleased with the results, I went ahead and used the sponged product on the shield of my full face helmet.

Highly recommended. Use it after a road trip before you wash your car (or motorcycle) and keep a pad in the car/on the bike for on the spot wipe downs when the necessity arises. One thing I didn't try it on yet is bird poop, so I'll have to get back to you on how that works out.

does the use of these require follow up wax on painted surfaces?
