  • Hot Rims All wheel cleaner on after market rims?

    Hi,

I bought the hot rims all wheel cleaner today and when i read the back, it says it is not safe on Aftermarket wheels.

the main reason why I bought it is because it says "All wheels cleaner". http://www.meguiars.com.au/products/...wheel-cleaner/

I have the Wedssport SA-55 on my car.

They are painted black (and clear coated i think), however, there some some parts that are blue. When i touch it, it seems smooth, so i suppose they are clear coated as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

Can anyone please advice if this will work on or might damage my wheel?

    Thanks!!

If you're 100% sure that your rims are completely clear coated with no bare metal exposed then you should be fine. If you have any doubt then maybe you should try the Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner in the blue bottle. Reason being is that the All Wheel cleaner is too aggressive for bare metal, like some aluminum rims can be, and actually stain them white. And it is incredibly difficult to get the staining off. From the pics it looks like you should be fine but maybe you can go to the manufacturer's website or the place you bought them from and find out if they are 100% clear coated or not

You may also prefer to just use regular car wash soap. If you use something like the Brake Dust Barrier first, regular soap and some soft brushes cleans pretty easily.

I agree with Murr. Soap and water should be fine. Try the brake dust barrier also. They look pretty easy to clean since there are no small intricate places to get into.

These almost look like they have an anodized coating on them and, if so, that surface is not safe for use with All Wheel Cleaner. All Wheel Cleaner is really intended for use on all OEM factory coated wheels. It is perfectly safe on many clear coated aftermarket wheels, but those must be fully clear coated in order to use this product on them. On one of my personal vehicles I have aftermarket wheels that have painted spokes with a polished lip, but the entire wheel is clear coated and I've never had the slightest issue using this product in the 7 years I've had the wheels. By the way, the wheels in question are Velox Performance VX6Rs:

There's just something the almost shimmering finish on your Wedssports that says "anodized" to us. We could be wrong, but knowing what those wheels cost, we'd shy away from All Wheel Cleaner and stick with Aluminum Wheel Cleaner in the blue bottle. I use that on the satin black wheels we have on two other cars at home, and it works great there.

If you haven't used the product yet the store you purchased it from should exchange it for a bottle of Aluminum Wheel Cleaner. If not, give a call to our Customer Care Center at 800.347.5700 and they'll take care of you.

With my experience of using AWC on aftermarket brake components, it is best to use it ONLY on OEM brakes, calipers, rotors, rims, etc. I would use car soap, or aluminum wheel cleaner as suggested.
