  • Better Darkening Ability: NXT 2.0 or Gold Class Plus paste wax?

I currently use the liquid version of NXT 2.0 on my black Ford Ranger. Would switching to Gold Class Plus paste wax darken the paint even more? I know I'd have to wax more with the Gold Class since it doesn't last as long. I imagine the swirl hiding ability would be greater with the Gold Class as well. Is that correct?

We think you're right on both counts, but don't expect a hugely dramatic difference. There is definitely some difference, no doubt about it, but whether or not you'll actually notice it a few months after switching is hard to say. In side by side comparisons it's usually easier to tell.

For example, when we take a test panel (painted non metallic black, of course) and tape off three sections so that we can apply Quik Wax, Gold Class Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Wax side by side by side there is an unmistakable visual difference between the three sections. And the Gold Class section is darkest, although the Ultimate section will shed water noticeably better. OK, so that's not a 100% direct correlation to the two products you asked about, but it's a lot closer than you might think. Of course, you'll be giving up the hydrophobic properties of the NXT if you switch to Gold Class, which may or may not be important to you.

From a purely personal point of view, I happen to like the look of Gold Class on black cars.

Yeah, definitely use the Gold Class Spray Wax if you go that way. Using it after washes will get you more life out of the main coats of wax.

Thanks guys. I just needed confirmation before I went out and bought a tin of Gold Glass. I'll probably use the Gold Class spray wax as a booster between waxes. I definitely prefer a blacker black rather than a highly reflective mirror like shine.

IMO I don't see the point of a spray quick wax.

I have some liguid Gold Class as well as liquid Turtle Wax Platinum I use in between waxing with Gold Class Plus paste and 16. So I guess my booster is more wax, haha.

I use the quik detailer to remove spots and droppings after using the Cali Duster when i pull out of the garage. Of course keeping my cars in the garage helps I'm sure.

          YMMV of course

NXT 2.0- A synthetic product, For superior protection and Hydrophobic Properties, works better on metallic or light colored paint.

Gold Class Plus-Will give better looks especially on dark and warm colors at the expense of durability vs. NXT 2.0. Not exactly a bad thing if you enjoy waxing your car on a regular basis.

Or UQW after washes (in between waxing) will be even more durable and still has good darkening capability.

              So many combinations!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
