White residue on door panel after using Ultimate Protectant

Greetings All!

I picked up a 2008 G sedan a few months ago. Finally getting around to working on the interior. Since I have had good luck with Meguiar's Ultimate line for the exterior, I picked up a bottle of Ultimate Protectant. Now I've got an issue:

I used it on the dash and the plastic areas on the drivers door panel to test it. Dash came out great! As for the for the door panel, about 80% of it came out great except the area directly under the door handle. It looks bleached and has a white residue. I'm wondering what it is from. Pic for reference:



Is there a way to reverse\fix this?

Try APC/APC+ diluted 10:1 or M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner agitated with a tooth brush. Wipe with a damp microfiber towel afterwards to clean up the residue. Give that a shot and let us know.

Yeah, hard to say if it is product residue or some other dirt that was already there but didnt show up before.

A good cleaning would be a good idea, esp around the hand/elbow area where it might be dirtiest.

Tried to pick up M39 today and had no luck. Will order it today online. Updates next week.

Finally got around to using M39 and a tooth brush. Even though it removed a ton of dirt and grime, the fading\white is still there. I think someone took a Magic Eraser to the door.

That does look like either a scuff mark or stain. Is it vinyl or plastic there?

It's plastic and it looks like it's most of the door. The bottom section (below the cup holder) is also faded. Someone also said to try a 5:1 mix of Woolite and water to see if it would come out.

If #39 didn't take it out, woolite sure won't. It's most likely rub marks on the plastic or a stain from a chemical cleaner.

Yeah.. if someone did something to actually remove the dye, and lighten the area, cleaning more isnt going to help.

I will have a talk with the dealer. Before I took delivery in April, they had the car "prepped and detailed". Somehow they covered it up and when I went to clean the interior, all of the black stuff came off on the towel.
