  • Where's the love for Deep Crystal Carnauba (#3)?!?

I have to preface this by saying that I haven't tried NXT 2.0 or Ultimate Wax yet, but.....I really love the Deep Crystal Carnauba #3! I get great results with this on my red Honda Accord coupe. I know the prep work gives 95% of the final result, so for me, a 3-step process (after washing/claying) of UC, UP (or #7) topped-off with DC#3 has worked great for me up to this point. Maybe I'm partial to the "carnauba look", but it's hard to imagine the car looking much better than it does now.

I'm wondering why I've seen DC#3 referred to here as an "entry-level" wax and why nobody mentions it anymore. Is it because it has the shortest lifespan among Megs waxes? It may not be the latest and the greatest, but it's still one of my favorites. Will it be around for awhile, or should I stock-up now while I still can?

I was into that one for a while until I got into experimenting with product and am now a wax junkie! Used to use it in high school until about half way through college.

DC03 is great!! Yes its an entry wax but if it works for you thats all that matters. If Carnauba is your preference I would suggest trying Gold Class Plus Carnauba.

I have around 5 wax/sealants. I love how long Ultimate wax lasts. And the smell of Nxt 2.0.

As for Carnauba I top mine occasionally with Gold Class Plus Carnauba. Carnauba's tend to give a warm glow to the paint while sealants tend to give a cripser shine.

I've used DC carnauba wax before, one of the very first megs waxes I've used. It may be entry level in price, but it can give NXT 2.0 a run for its money. On our black SUV, it gave the darkest and deepest black i've seen even compared to other waxes I have. Durability is Ok, beads water nicely, for me the appeal of DC3 is the deep and rich shine it gives especially on dark paints. But being a curious joe, i tried moving up to synthetics like FX Synwax (yeah, i know its not a megs product but i have to try something) then moved to NXT 2.0, honestly I initially felt disappointed with the lack of depth or body given by the sythetics. I expected a lot more from them, DC3 the "entry level" is no slouch in terms of what it can deliver.

If every step before waxing is done right, even "entry-level" waxes will look amazing.

Like most of us on this forum, I also enjoy experimenting with different products. So far, I've always come back to DCC for it's ease of use and the result I get. Having said that, I recently picked up a bottle of NXT 2.0 and I'm looking forward to trying it out. Maybe topping-off the 2.0 with DCC will be the best combo for me.

Funny thing is, the other inexpensive and rather, um, "basic" lower cost wax that does get a fair bit of chatter is our A12 Cleaner Wax. This was our very first consumer product, introduced in 1973, and virtually the same formulation ever since. And it's still one of the best selling waxes in the country to this day - which says a lot about all the "latest and greatest" that have come and gone over the years.

Detailing enthusiasts often look upon consumer products, especially the less expensive items, as being somehow inferior or not worth looking into. Since we have such a broad mix of product lines, including the Mirror Glaze Pro line, we can actually draw from those technologies for our "basic consumer" line that enthusiast forums often overlook. Ultimate Compound is a case in point - derived from M105 it's much more user friendly on a DA and still offers tons of cut when needed. But, hey, it's $10 at Walmart so, come on, how can it compare to boutique products that cost 2 to 4 times as much? Put it head to head with those products and you'll see how.

So Deep Crystal Carnauba, a "pure wax" by our definition, meaning it has no polishing oils and no cleaners. It's just wax protection. And that makes it not too far off of M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax. Not identical, but similar. Do all the prep right, and at $8 a bottle it just might shock you!

It is a very nice wax and I like it a lot actually! It was the third wax I used. The first was M26, then Gold Class, then DC3 then NXT.20 and now Ultimate Wax.
