  • Ultimate Wax question?

So I wanna wax my car and I have a small issue.. I live in Florida so its always sunny, mostly really hot and I have no way of putting my car in the shade so I was wondering if it really is safe to use. And if is the only wax out there from Meguiars line?

Personally I'd still seek out shade just to be safe. However...

I believe I read somewhere that Meg's had tested UW on surfaces over 150F...successfully. Not recommended, but, you can go for it. It's a fully synthetic wax, so the sun isn't as big of an issue.

Why not start the wax process in the late afternoon when the sun isn't at it's harshest?

Absolutely you can. I have used it in the sun several times.

        Re: Ultimate Wax question?

While Ultimate Wax in either paste or liquid form can be used very successfully in direct sunlight on a warm surface, just use some common sense when doing so and you'll be fine. For example, a black car in direct sunlight for a couple of hours when ambient temperature is near 90F can result in a surface temp on that car in excess of 170F. That's just a bad idea no matter how you look at it, and we wouldn't recommend trying UW or anything else in that situation. If you can wait until later in the day when the sun is low and the paint surface has cooled down a bit, you'll be much better off. A lighter colored car, however, won't get anywhere near as hot under the same conditions so getting around the temp issue is a bit easier.

Bottom line: if you put your hand on the hood of the car and you jump back in pain, don't try to wax it. If you can comfortable hold your hand on the surface, even though it's pretty warm, you should be fine. And, no, this should not be taken as a contest to see who can withstand the highest temp for the longest and call it good to wax!!

Well this is my first time waxing so if I wait till late afternoon, I don't wanna have to wax at night. But I guessed I'll give it a shot.

And another question, I'm thinking of the kit that contains the Gold Class wax. If I get it and I get some on any plastic, can it be removed? I know the Ult. Wax does.

Gold Class will stain trim if you let it dry on the surface. The paste version more so, IMHO.

            Still a great product, though!

              Re: Ultimate Wax question?

When applying a wax that can and will stain trim, such as Gold Class, the trick is to pay attention to what you're doing and when you get a little bit on the trim, just wipe it off immediately and completely. You shouldn't have any staining issues that way. But if you slather it on and let it dry, it will be far more difficult to remove. But this process is generally referred to as detailing. As in - pay attention to the details. If it helps you to apply wax in a straight line when working next to textured trim, by all means do so. Or you could always tape off the trim prior to waxing. As tedious as that sounds (and it really isn't in the overall scheme of things) it's a whole lot faster than trying to clean up after the fact.

I live in florida also. to escape the sun I go to one of the non busy spray car wash stations to wax after washing at home.

                  hope this helps

It can be used when it warm outside. I have used this in direct sunlight. I have used this product in 80F. I usually wipe it off after i'm done waxing the whole car.
