  • Just tried Ultimate Liquid Wax

This weekend was a break in the temperatures, and it was a sign I had to get my new car waxed and ready for *gulp* winter.

I have used NXT 2.0 on my other car for years with great results. Now with a new car, I decided on giving the Ultimate Liquid Wax a shot. At first, I didn't know about it until I was at the store ready to pick up another bottle of NXT 2.0. I had to do some quick online research to learn more about it. Then, I decided to pick up a bottle.

I can only echo much of the points raised by others. I used a Meguiars Clay Bar kit to clean the surface (even with a brand-new car, I'm a bit surprised at the bonded contaminants that got there). I made sure I had a very thin coating applied to the sheetmetal. I actually tried waxing the whole car first versus doing a few panels. I did have some slight streaking in some areas, but I am attributing that to too much product being applied (I have a tendency to do that). To minimize any streaking from any product I use, I ended the wax job with a spritz of detailer (now faithfully using Ultimate Quick Detailer) and watch the shine.

I also avoided contact with the clear bra I have installed. For that, I used Ultimate Quick Wax.

If I had to nitpick, the only two things I didn't like were the following:

    1. The packaging: Maybe it was my particular packaging, but there were significant flakes and excess of cut paper -- probably from cutting the cardboard to its packaging size. The microfibre towel inside attracted them, which made me second guess using it. The upshot I guess is that with it being paper, it could be more easily recycled.

    2. Canadian pricing: My local retailer had it for $34.99 CDN. I know with our exchange rate, that's still a hefty price when online at Meguiars the same package goes for $29.99 USD. Even years ago I came away from shows where products were significantly cheaper. The price discrepany may not seem huge, but us Canadians really feel it and I'm sure there are comments about it.

Still, Meguiars is a very good product, and like others I'm going to see how well ULW lasts given the upcoming winter weather. I'm probably going to try ULW on my other car, which has used NXT 2.0 for the last 4 years.

    And here is the car:

I recently picked up a lightly used 2009 Malibu LT in Dark Blue. After a very unsuccessful experience with a competitor's ICE product, I determined that:

      1) I had a lot of contaminants bonded to the paint surface.
      2) Ice Product didn't perform to my satisfaction.

The next day, I picked up the Clay Bar Kit and the Ultimate Liquid Wax and got to work. It was easy to use and did a very good job. There were some areas where the color wasn't even, but a shot of Ultimate Quik Wax and a little buffing took care of those. I loved the fact that I didn't have to worry about the textured plastic trim pieces.

      A week and a wash/quik-wax later...

              Nice work.

Don't feel bad about the pricing, we're paying at least $51 in Australia for the liquid version despite the Australian dollar being at parity with the US dollar.

I am very impressed with the ULW. On my old F-150 Supercrew I found that the bright red loved the NXT then topped with 26 .... it made the red look like it was melting. My new F150 is Aspen Green which is very dark with gold metallic flake, in some light it looks almost black then in bright sun the gold just shines. Anyway the first wax I tried was the NXT and while it gave it a shine it didn't have the depth that the red used to get. I read on here about the ULW and decided to try it... wow. Easy to use and as has been posted a little goes a long ways. After a day I used the Ultimate Detail and then applied another thin coat of ULW. Results are wonderful.

I considered getting some to try out...then I saw the price and freaked out!!!

How do they sell this at 3x the price of their cleaner wax...I don't get it nor will I!!!

ULW is what I have used on the last 5 vehicles (2 clients & 3 family). More pop in the metallics with the ULW than NXT2. If you are in the parts of the country that have O'Reilly Auto Parts stores - it is currently on sale in their circular (until the end of the month, I think). Curious to see how long it lasts into the winter......

Filet Mignon cost more that ground beef?
Two totally different products so kinda hard to compare pricing.

Why does a Corvette cost so much more than a Camaro, which costs so much more than a Cruze? They're all Chevrolets so what's the big deal?

Cleaner Wax, as good as it is, dates back to 1973 (it was our first consumer product, by the way) while Ultimate Wax is a fully synthetic cross linking polymer that offers excellent durability, maximum protection, great gloss enhancement and a lot of darkening of the paint.

But at the end of the day, we all have our reasons for choosing what we choose - performance, price, etc all come into play.

For the first time in my life a detailing brand has reasonable prices in our country. I got a bottle of ULW for $29 and Gold Class Plus Carnauba for $21. Which is a bargain thinking a UK brand is selling at more than twice the money it is asked for in the UK.

So would there be a chance I get better results using one over another? And which one should I choose over a dark blue metallic VW? I have NXT2.0, GCPCarnauba, Ultimate Wax Liquid and Paste now.

I tested this product for under the heat of the sun last weekend and I like this product very much. I'm from the Philippines and as a tropical country the temperature ranges from 34 to 38 degrees C. Amazing how you can easily wipe of the product!!!
