  • Weird result with Ultimate Wash and Wax

I recently bought a container of Ultimate Wash and Wax as I've become quite a fan of the "Ultimate" product line (especially the new Ultimate liquid wax); until now I've generally used Deep Crystal car wash. After using it I've noticed something strange and I'm hoping someone can explain it to me.

On my car I use a base of Ultimate Liquid Wax with a layer of Gold Class Paste Wax on top of it. After using Deep Crystal car wash my car is left feeling basically like it does right after applying the top layer of wax (smooth and glassy). After using Ultimate Wash and Wax the surface of my car actually felt bumpy or gritty, like there was surface residue left behind. I don't think it's an issue of using Ultimate Wash and Wax correctly as I followed the instructions on the bottle regarding dilution and so forth so I'm wondering if maybe Ultimate Wash and Wax doesn't like being used on top of the Gold Class Paste Wax. Does anyone have any idea why I'm experiencing this? Thanks.

There shouldnt be any computability problem. Did the soap dry at all? Not sure what else might cause that, unless something actually got on the car since the last wash.

I did not allow the soap to dry. I also check the surface of the car before I wash it to see if I have to deal with things like treesap stuck on there, it was dusty but relatively smooth.

my experience with UW&W is not very positive as well
the paint feel very dry and not slick at all..
prefer gold class or NXT wash instead..

Honestly it could have been a matter of the surface just not being very clean. I was washing a friends car this weekend that was absolutely filthy, and even after we were done the car just still felt rough, it didn't feel smooth and slick like I'm used to.

We rewashed again using gold class (again) and the second time the paint felt much better. Was the car really dirty? While I haven't used it personally, several other members have been less than impressed with the cleaning ability of UW&W -- I'm sure they have to make some concessions in order to have the product leave behind an appreciable amount of wax on the paint.

Since there's nothing in UWW that could possibly cause this issue (the same could be said for any of our car washes and, we suspect, any of our competitors car washes), we really have to assume that you've had some sort of contaminants bond to the car since the last washing. It is incredibly common for a car to be exposed to something without the owner even knowing about it. If you're parked downwind from someone using any sort of spray paint (whether an industrial building being painted, or the kid next door working on some sort of project - or any of a million different things) then this rough feeling will be the end result. And since whatever it is that landed on the paint has bonded to it, the paint feels a bit rough even after washing. Hence the term "bonded contaminants". And yes, even with a reasonably fresh coat of wax on the car things can and do still stick. And it always happens without us ever being aware it's going on.

Claying will solve the issue, but you'll need to apply a fresh coat of wax when you're done. Otherwise, UWW and Gold Class Wax will play together without issue.

I was our car that sits outside with UWW. I wash the car in sections (Top Middle, Front & Back). After rising, I use the Water Magnet to dry most the water off and then follow with the Supreme Shine Microfiber. I know the bottle tells you to use the Supreme shine to dry, but the Water Magnets purpose is to remove the water. Anyway, when am using the Supreme Shine Microfiber to dry and I guess buff/polish there is a lot of resistance when dragging the Microfiber over the surface. It is not smooth like removing wax is. What is causing this? Should I use not use the Water Magnet and just use the Supreme Shine Microfiber insead?

I use UWW on this car (I use NXT on my garaged car), because I don't have much time and use it as a one step to hopfully get "some" wax on the car to help protect the paint.

Any advise on this would be appreciated.

Using either water magnet of the supreme shine microfiber towels will be fine. The drag isn't caused by the use of the water magnet drying towel.

How does your paint feel after washing and drying the car? When you run your clean hand across the surface, is the paint smooth or rough? I would imagine that it's rough because of bonded contaminants and you need to remove it by using Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

BTW, the wax in UWW is very minimal. If you want protection, you need to use a traditional wax such as Ultimate Wax or NXT 2.0. If you don't have the time or don't feel like using the traditional wax then at least use Ultimate Quik Wax.
