  • Ultimate Protectant on tires

Ran out of my usual tire dressing #40 (don't care for the high gloss stuff), so I decided to try UP (lotion) on freshly cleaned tires. I gotta say I was impressed. Used a tire swipe and coated the swipe with one line of lotion and did the entire tire. Worked it in real good as you would on vinyl trim and the tire darkened right up. Dries quickly just as when on vinyl too. Just the right amount of sheen, I would call it a satin finish. The next day I did a light second coat just to ensure adequate coverage.

I know UP would not normally be designated as a tire dressing, but I kind of like what I am seeing. Now to see how long it will last. May have to get the new spray version if this is going to be my go to tire dressing.

    What do you all think?

No, that's the thing. I use it just as I would on vinyl or plastic (a little goes a long way).

Work it in real good and it dries to touch. No sling whatsoever.

Just make sure you start with a clean tire first as that will be key as with any tire dressing.

Yeah it really is a toss up. I should clarify when I said it dries to touch, that will depend of course on whether you put too much on or not.

              Looks fantastic!

Let us know how it lasts. Some have said that UP is not really suitable for tires because your sidewalls flex, which breaks the bond between UP and the rubber.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Thanks for sharing this. It made the tires look really good! It gets even better that there's no sling and it dries to the touch! I'm looking forward to your durability update.

I have been using UP on my golf cart tires for a year now and it gets a lot of use as my daily driver in the resort. It does NOT crack or peel or break up.

                      Re: Ultimate Protectant on tires

For anyone that wishes to try this here is how i used it.

With my Eagle one tire swipe i applied one line the entire length of the swipe probably ΒΌ" or slightly less wide. I then lightly swiped around the entire tire to spread an even amount all the way around. I then started to work it in just as you would on vinyl or plastic. The more you work it in the darker the tire gets. The product really absorbs into the tire well the more you work it in and when your finished it almost feels dry to touch, but that will improve within an hour or so.

It's real easy to want to apply more and more, but work it in well and it will cover the entire tire and will leave a nice satin sheen when your finished.

If you wish you can follow up the next day with a lighter coating to ensure even coverage.

After 2 days still looks the same.

Very true, which is why it's maybe not the BEST product for this use.

It wont' flake off or crack in a way that it's visible to the naked eye, but the bond will break and the product won't last as long as it otherwise could.
