  • ColorX is our friend

I was reminded today how very useful ColorX can be. My black S2K ain't exactly a daily driver but it ain't a garage queen either. I drive it year around, rain or shine. I have given up trying to keep the paint swirl-free. Honda paint swirls just by looking at it. My biggest battle is water spots. If I don't wash my car within 24 hours after a rain shower--and I'm often not able to--the rain sitting on the surface will etch the paint. I haven't had good luck using a vinegar solution to remove the spots. But I have found that ColorX does a good job. I use a foam applicator and work it into the paint, and the water spots disappear.

ColorX is exceptionally user-friendly. I have not experienced any problems either applying or removing the product. I give it 15-30 minutes to haze, and it buffs right off. I cannot comment on the gloss, as I always end up topping the ColorX with a carnauba wax (right now I'm using Victoria Concours Red, which I like a great deal). ColorX is an excellent product. I'm sorry to see that it has become increasingly hard to find locally.

    Cheers,
    Al

Agreed, ColorX is often forgotten and under-rated.

So you apply it by hand? Any reason why you don't use a DA?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I'm too lazy to pull out the DA and tape up the car ...

Yesterday, for example, I only applied ColorX to the horizontal panels, which were the panels afflicted with water spots. I suppose I could have applied the ColorX with a DA and polishing pad, but it was easier for me just to apply it by hand.

Sounds like I need to give Colorx a try.

I have a bottle of ColorX. Almost forgot I had it. It's a great one-step product. I still use it on wheels as it works well for that.

For those of you that use it often, how would you rate it's durability under average conditions e.g. (car washes, rain etc..)?

Murr introduced me, and I'm sure hundreds others, to ColorX. After introduction a year or more ago, I still use it and love what it can do and do so easily!!

Credit Murr for creating another ColorX user here. I apply it with the DA almost just like I would apply regular wax. I may go over the surface a bit more if I am trying to get rid of water spots, but all in all, not much more work than if I was appying two coats of wax.

I can't speak to it's durability as I always follow with a coat of wax. Great bang for the effort on my black car.

Colorx is a really good product. But, I like A12 Cleaner/Wax (Maroon Bottle) more.

I don't know, I find it easier to use and gives a better shine with longer protection.

With Colorx I have only seen 1.5 months before it looked as if the car was no longer beading.

With A12, I get more than 2 months but haven't kept it on a vehicle long enough to measure after about 9 weeks.

I would guess about 3-4 months for me and that one stays outside all the time.

I use two polishing pad on the megs DA and probably use a bit to much wax.

As Shawn says above...A-12. A great touch-up product for those pesky bug splats and such. Kinda like saying, "Sometimes the low priced spread is as good as the butter."
