tried NXT today

First, off I have to make this short since my computer is sick with a virus and I can't stay on long. I'll make it as detailed as possible though. Will post pics when I get a chance and the sun peaks out. Supposed to rain tommorow and all this week too, so bare with me.

Wash with cherry suds and 2 bucket method using sheepskin mitt

Didn't need to clay since I did this no more than 2 weeks when I did DACP and MPPP

#82 SFP with W-8006 pad on speed 5 with PC. This is really brought the paint to life

NXT with W-8006 pad on speed 4. This went on super easy and came off like almost nothing. The paint is really slick! and shines really nice!!

I didn't get finished until about 7 tonight and the sun was going down so I didn't get a chance to take some nice after pics.

All in all, NXT is on my side and I will continue to use it and save the MPPP for customers cars. I still love MPPP though, I rate it next to NXT as far as shine, don't know about protection, will see in the months coming. deadman98

Hey DM,

I knew the #82 SFP would help you obtain a deeper gloss to your finish!! I am pleased you are so happy!!

As for the NXT, it is really an excellent product! It adds gloss yet keeps that warmth and depth to the paint!

I am glad it turned out so well! Please post some pics when are able!

Hey Tim,

I had a chance to look at NXT today, despite the rain. It beaded like crazy but the shine just wasn't there still. It's slick as hell, and does have some depth to it but nothing to really make heads turn or put a nice smile on my face. I don't know what else to do anymore and I doubt topping NXT will do anything more for my paint, not to mention all the orange peel in it!!!! argh!! I think from now on just simple washing, claying and waxing will do me just fine.

Because think about it. I go through all that polishing and waxing and only to make the paint look just alittle bit better doesn't make any sense to me! I hate gray!! deadman98

Hey DM,

Do yourself a favor and step back a moment and try to remember what it looked like in the VERY beginning. I would bet that the improvemnets have been dramatic! The problem is some paints or the finishes themselves, can only be taken so far. Each improvement will be small thereby making you feel like you have not improved the finish when you have.

Did you place two coats of NXT on your truck? Take your truck out into the sun and take a look and see what you think. If the truck has been repainted previously, the orange peel as you mentioned, could be causing the lack of reflection from the uneven surface. Do you have any close up shots of just the paint? Does one of your buddies have a digital camera that could take a few pics for you?

Hey Tim,

I'm glad your coaching me through this. For 2 days straight, and I do mean straight! thus far it has been raining steadily non stop!! everything is either starting flood over and has flooded over!! Still raining as we speak too. I will admit though, NXT beads very nicely on the truck, I could take a pic of that?? lol

As far as the truck being repainted, as far as I know, just the drivers side front panel has been repainted, who did it or when it was done I have no clue.

I'm sure your right tim about the dramatic improvements and I just don't see them, yet! Maybe when the sun pops out I can truely see how it all turned out. I can take some pics of the orange peel and NXT beading. Thanks again Tim for all your help,,,,deadman98

Hi Deadman,
How long did you buff SFP? I tried it out for the 1st time Saturday, and the gloss was a thing of beauty! But later on, I drove to a gas station with bright lights after dark, and I saw some buffer rows?

These were not very noticeable unless viewed at the right angle of light. I wonder if I'm not breaking SFP down enough? (There was a very light haze on the hood)

I used a PC with a W-8006 pad (Primed) on the 5 setting, using slow, even, overlapping passes until the area was semi-dry?...I guess.

I removed the product with a very soft terry towel...I then finished up with a MF towel.

I also made sure the pad was cleaned periodically.

I like the BSP line, but I need to get the technique down pat.

Hey Rusty,

I buffed SFP for a couple mins and a W-8006 pad, also on speed 5. This was enough time for me not to be able to see SFP anymore, it came off real easy, but not as easy as NXT!

As far as buffer trails I couldn't track any what so ever. When I posted this thread I don't remember putting a thumbsup for the icon!??! oh well,,,,,deadman98

I am surprised that you found buffer marks after using the #82 Swirl Free Polish. I buff with the product, but remove it while still damp. I wonder if you buffed it too long?? Also, make sure to use a cross hatch pattern when buffing (ie. back and forth, front to back, and corner to corner).

Me too!...I went back & forth and up & down with the PC, but not corner to corner. The buffer rows were in a horizontal pattern.

I washed the car today and could not see them, but it was somewhat overcast at the time...I think the gloss looks outstanding, even after 2 rainstorms and 1 washing.

Next chance I get, I will wipe the hood with a QD & MF and drive back to the station at night to see if I can still see these buffer rows.

Could it be the NXT that I applied as a LSP?...I applied it with a W-9006 pad on the 4 setting, but I didn't buff it in as long as I did with the SFP.

I did see some minor streaking the 1st time I applied NXT to the hood by hand a while back, but the streaks disappeared the next day.

Even with these problems that I hope to resolve soon, I like the way SFP & NXT look on the finish overall...The gloss is incredible...

I have been using the default settings so far...I would just play with the Max. Width setting (I have mine set at 600 for the moment), and set the Max. Height setting to a ridiculously high number.

If I didn't answer your question correctly, then post back and I will try again.

I apologize, but I have no experience with #5, however, I did manage to find some info at Show Car Garage by Mike Phillips on the subject:

#5 is formulated to be a very dry polish. (compared to both #3 and #7)
#5 is formulated to actually “dry”, and this is preferred by some users, especially in high humidity, or wet climates. The name, “New Car Glaze”, is admittedly somewhat confusing, considering this product came out in the early 1950’s for use on “New Cars” back then. New cars back then were getting painted with “Acrylic Lacquers and later Acrylic Enamels.

I hope this helps some...If not, then post back and I'm sure someone with #5 experience will help you.

Thanks for posting back...I know (some) about pixels & resolution, but I misunderstood your question. I thought you were having trouble getting your thumbnails down to size.

I'm not up to speed on changing the resolution of a photo...Can that be done with the right software?

By resolution, I mean, making the image sharper.
