Melting Paste Wax... :|

So, a friend of mine gave me a couple tins of Gold Class and NXT 1.0.

They were both about 3/4 used, broken up and whatnot.

I decided to set them on a hot eye for about 20-30 seconds.

The Gold Class melted down MUCH quicker than the NXT.

Any harm by doing this? I don't really care if they're toast now, obviously, just seeing if this was a good idea after all.

I don't think that the paste wax gets damaged when it melts. Just bring it back to a lower temperature environment and it will solidify back to its original state. My Ultimate Wax paste was melted when it arrived but I don't think it adversely affected the performance of the wax.

As long as you didn't get it hot enough for a long enough period of time to start blowing off the solvents, it should be just fine. Chris Dasher has been known to melt down two different types of paste wax and blend them together, then let them cool down before use.

While we don't really advocate experimentation to that level, we obviously can't stop you from doing so. Just know that when you start experimenting you do so at your own risk.

To safely melt waxes use a double boiler i.e the lower pan contains water (there must be a gap between the two so the water doesn't make contact with the top pans base) the top pan contains the wax.

This method will ensure you don't evapourate the solvents.All safety precautions mentioned previously should be observed

This is the safest way to do it. This is the way it should be done.

Hi Togwt, can you share with us the temperature and duration you used for melting your paste wax?

I received a few cans of NXT 2.0 paste wax from amazon yesterday, and due to the 90 degrees weather this week, the cans all came with melted waxes. There's clear liquid seeping out of the wax and the top layer of the paste wax looked like my ice cream when it's been sitting in room temperature for over 20 minutes.

I want to try and get the wax back to its original state, with all the chemicals properly mixed back together.
