  • Ultimate Wax Review Revised!!

Sorry guys, I tried embedding the videos and it made the thread freak out...

Anyway, I will simply post the links to the YouTube videos of them instead....

I found the paste version to be much harder than NXT 2.0 or Gold Class which I really liked. This way it is much easier to apply a nice thin coat. The problem with the other pastes is that they were too soft and allowed too much wax to gather on the applicator making a thin application difficult. This was rectified with this paste version as it is much harder.

The wax spread very easily and a little goes a long way. This is true with all waxes but I feel it is even more important when dealing with Ultimate Wax. Don't try and force more wax onto the applicator or any particular section. Once the section is covered, there is no need to add more. Meguiars made thin application much easier. I attempted to apply a thick coat but the wax simply spread too easily almost forcing me to thin it out. I feel it is almost like a fail-safe and prevents you from applying too much.

I tried it out a second time on a silver car today and I tried to apply it a little thicker-as I always do on silver and white just so I know I covered everything-and it kept wanting to thin back out as I applied it.

    Removal
Removal was very simple. I used the included black Supreme Shine and simply wiped away the haze.

I waited 20 mins and decided that I would give the removal a shot even though the wax did not fully pass the swipe test. However, I have heard from Mike Stoops that this wax is different and that it does not have to necessarily pass the swipe test in order for it to be ready for removal. Plus, I wanted to see how the wax would remove under not ideal set-up time as I know people will do it by accident.

Shawn, when looking at the videos on the YouTube site there is a little "Embed" button below the video. Click on that and it reveals a little box with the code in it. Grab all of that code and then simply paste it into the text box here on MOL while posting your message. It should work like this:

The code posted to get the above video to display here is:

    < iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9xXpjEwdRFs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>< /iframe>

Now, in order to display the above text I had to add a space between the first "<" and "iframe" and again between the last "<" and "/iframe>" or it would just display the video again. So don't put those spaces in!!

          Re: Ultimat Wax Review Revised!!

I put on a fresh coat of Ultimate Wax on another vehicle today.

I continued my thin coat, but tried the 3-5 minute till wipe technique too. It wasn't horrible to remove. I didn't find keeping it to 3-5 minutes was any more helpful than when I wax the entire car and then wipe though.

It was still a tiny bit tougher than other waxes, but manageable.

I always like the finish though, once you do get it wiped. I think it must be the polishing oils that are obviously present in the product. Furthermore, the feel to your touch. I think this wax on the car might "feel," better than any other I have ever felt. It makes the car feel so soft, a bit like whipped cream perhaps. Unlike anything else. I think this is also in part down to the polishing oils.

This ultra-luxury feel only seems to last a day or two, but it is oh so nice. Thankfully, the protection is much longer lasting!

I "re-visited" Ultimate (Paste) wax too. I had a very tough time with the streaks and removal previously. What sparked me to try it again was that we are experiencing extremely low humidity conditions here...and it seemed to make a huge difference in the application and removal of the product. It performed with near the ease that NXT 2.0 liquid does for me. It still didn't come close to the level of "just waxed" look that NXT 2.0 Liquid wax gives me, however.

I almost thought you had a "change of heart" regarding your views/experience with ultimate wax.. it almost looked like you were about to say that the ultimate wax now worked better and shines better then NXT 2.0, then i read the last part of your review!

Believe me, I wanted to love this Ultimate Wax..but it still isn't as easy to work with as the NXT 2.0...and it still doesn't have that glow that NXT 2.0 has.

I just wonder if the ultimate paste wax is easier to remove than nxt 2.0 paste? Because i can also say that the NXT 2.0 paste is more difficult to use than NXT 2.0 liquid.. But i wouldn't say that it requires a lot of elbow grease, but you can feel the difference..

I just used UW liquid for the first time today and visually I am very impressed. The only other products I have used that match the results are Quick N Slick and Wolfgang DGS 3.0 and both of those products are considerably more expensive. Granted the UW didn't come off as easy as the Wolfgang but one must keep in mind that UW can be purchased over the counter AND it does not stain the trim at all. This will definitely have a place in my arsenal. Once again Meguiars, you have offered a superior product at a bargain price. Good job!
