  • Question about Ultimate Polish

Can UP be used right after M105?

I know M205 has better cutting power than UP, and UP has more polishing oil. But, since UP is much easier to be found at local store ( walmart has great deal for it ), I am wondering if UP can be used as replacement of M205.

Or, does M105 just need greater cutting power as M205 has to get nice finish??

UP can be used after 205. It may give it a slightly better shine due to the increased polishing oils but it may only be discernable on dark colored cars.

IMHO the short answer is YES.

I think 205 then 105 via KBM is a stronger combo but UP will work!
UP is a consumer product and if Wallyworld is convenient for you...
You may wish to try UC rather than UP. It's less aggressive than 105.
I like the Megs trio. It's easy, clean and I'm able to obtain excellent results.

The perfect combos are M105/ M205 and UC/ UP but of course you could use UP after M105 as well.

If you need to remove some side defects left by M105 then use UP with yellow polishing pad but if just high gloss polishing is needed then black finishing pad will deliver.

You know what, I just did my trunk lid on my xB2, with M205 followed by UP. It turned out great! M205 cuts a bit more, but UP has more polishing oil (making it feel more buttery with my DA). Anyone noticed the baby-powder smell of UP? LOL.

So, does UP still has cutting ability to treat fine swirl? Or, it is just for glazing?

              Re: Question about Ultimate Polish

It's a cleaner polish. It should remove fine swirls.

Its defect removal ability will depend on paint hardness and type of application (hand/ machine/ kind of buffing pad/ etc.).

                Re: Question about Ultimate Polish

Since M105 has the ability to finish out very nicely on its own, you may well be just fine with UP instead of M205. Without seeing the paint following M105, and without knowing how that paint responds to input, it's impossible to day definitely if UP will get the job done or not. But, it is derived from M205 and, although its cutting power is a bit less, it isn't all that much less, depending on how it's applied. But if M105 is finishing out really nice for you, then any second step is going to be more of a clarifying and enhancing step rather than much of a real correction step.

So, can it? Yes. Will it? Sorta depends. Just like everything else in this game, really.

                  Re: Question about Ultimate Polish

Thanks for all the great info! I am now much clear on UP. I just picked up a bottle of UP at my local walmart for $7 to try out. Can't hurt much by $7, right?

Just another silly question .... is the combo of M105, UC and UP sufficient enough to treat all kind of cutting need on paint?

I am just wondering about that. I still love M205 and will keep it in inventory.

They should cover the vast majority, but you may come across some older single stage paints that will prefer some M80 or M83.
