Hi I'm new to the forum and new to the Meguiar productline. I got som NXT wax yesterday and tried it out. I wasn't very impressed i must say. It seems to me it's not a very effective product, it feels and smells more like something you would use on your face rather than your car. It wasn't very easy to work with either when using the small pad you get with the wax. The products i usualy use(Lahega, Autosmart) did get the pait to feel and look much smoother and brighter than the NXT wax.
I didn't register just to complain, i just wonder if i maybe did something wrong although i followed the instructions?

I was just wondering whether you left plenty of time for it to dry, before buffing it off?

My take on NXT Tech Wax.

NXT Tech Wax is designed for use on a new or like new paint finish. For best results you need to clean and polish the paint first. NXT is a sealant and needs a pristine surface to bond properly.

I wash, clay and polish my paint prior to applying NXT. After application NXT needs time for the polymers to crosslink. This can take up to 12 hours depending on the weather. It should be kept dry during this time.

If you want the very best durability and looks you can apply a second coat of NXT 24 hours after the first. NXT also looks better the day after you apply it after the crosslinking has taken place.

I used a cleaner and a polish before i applied the NXT, the surface was really clean and smooth. It seems to dry quite slowly compared to other products so it satt for about half an hour in a warm fairly dry garage. The Lahega and autosmart products contain pretty much solvents and are easier to work with in my opinion and dries faster too, but they don't smell so good. The Lahega hardwax i use gives a good protection and shine for about 8 months and it's almost like water, very easy to spread it.

I'm technically on vacation but saw you register and post your comments so I wanted to welcome you.

What did you apply the NXT to? As in what was the condition of the paint, and even what color was it? If the finish was neglected, did you clay the paint first or use a pre-wax cleaner?

Light colored cars don't show dramatic changes with any companies wax. At the same time, dark colored cars do. Check out the Corvette below, the owner had been layering a product on the finish from the day he picked the car up from the dealership, he brought it to a clinic at Meguiar's and he and a friend applied one thin coat of NXT and then they wiped it off. We then backed it out into the sun for everyone to inspect.

The point is NXT creates spectacular results, but like any last step product, it's important that the proper prep work is done first, and if you're working on a white car, or a light colored car, simply put, you're not going to see dramatic before and after results as this is the nature of light colored cars. The wax is still creating a clear, high gloss finish, it's just your eyes cannot perceive the differences.

Well if you cleaned and polished the paint before applying NXT, and you're not seeing great results, what color is the car?

If you apply NXT with a thin coating, it should dry and be ready to remove in about 10 to 15 minutes, if it's taking longer, it could be you've applied it to thick.

Also, Meguiar's recommends two thin coats for uniform coverage and appearance, perhaps try applying a second coat, with a thin layer and after drying then remove and inspect.

Thanks for the warm welcome jfelbab and Mike, and for the pictures of those great looking cars I have a silvermetallic Audi A4 and the paint is in a very good condition, no scratches and it was very smooth and clean when i applied the NXT.
Maybe the reason, like you wrote, really is the color, you don't see the shine as you do on a black or dark colored car. I'll try another layer today. But i prefer a bigger sponge to apply the wax with than the tiny pad you get with the NXT.

I hope you enjoy this forum as much as I do, mark2. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge and skill available here to help answer questions and suggest technique.

If you have an orbital polisher you might want to use it with NXT to improve the results.

BTW, what's the weather like in Helsinki now?

Well i've been thinking about getting an orbital polisher, but i'm not sure i need one becouse i get great results just by working on the paint the old fashion way.
The weather here is warmer than normal, right now it's about 35 F snow/rain/wind, but yesterday we had about 38 F and the sun was shining and the streets were dry and nice. It's been raining more than snowing this winter, so far. Fortunately i have a warm garage to work in.

With an orbital polisher, I get a more even coat, as well as a taking less time.

NXT is also great with the orbital, it doesn't clog up the pad like some other waxes do, during removal.

Hi Mark

Welcome to MOL. When I first used NXT on my previous SILVER Focus ST170 I didnt get the results that I was expecting. Your Audi paint will be a lot better quality that the Focus though.

I discovered that i was applying way too much and not allowing it to fully dry before removing. We have had similar temperatures to you recently and I had no problems with the paint on my black car last weekend. As others have said shake the bottle well and use as little as possible. I hold the applicator over the top of the bottle and shake the bottle. This amount that is left on the applicator is usually enough for at least 1 wing and door.

Thanks for the welcome Rob66. I layed a second layer today and i let it dry for about an hour and it was easier to work with. It's drying quite slowly compared to other waxes. I have a varm and dry garage and usualy they are ready to wipe of in about 30 min or so. I applied just enogh to cover the paint. As with most waxes a thicker layer wont give a you a better result just more wax to remove.
Now lets see how it will protect my paint in the Finnish winter, i'll keep you posted.

Don't judge the shine NXT gives right after your polish it off. It gets a lot shinier after a few hours of setting. At least, that is my experience with it. I liked the look after I removed it but I was floored the next day when I took it out of the garage.

A tip that I'd add is to put it on really thin. If you put down NXT too thick, it's a pain to get off... YMMV.
