  • Tried out Ultimate Polish and wax this weekend

I've been on a crash course of sorts over the past few weekends learning the ins and outs of using my new d/a and got the chance to give the Ultimate line a try this weekend. The car had already been gone over with UC and SwirlX with good results but after shining my new Brinkmann light on the car I was somewhat surprised to fine the finish somewhat hazy...you guessed it...super fine swirling from the compounds. I started going over the car again yesterday with Ultimate Polish and spotlighting each area before and after which kept me motivated with the reward of a clear finish each time. I finished the polishing today and with what little time I had left I applied Ultimate Wax to the roof and rear spoiler of the car just to see the results with the d/a. Talk about a super thin film! I took the traditional method and allowed the wax to dry before wiping off which left a slick, glossier than ever finish. I'm looking forward to finishing the car next weekend hopefully. One thing I noticed which might help those with streaking issues, on a whim I shined my light on the areas right after removal and noticed what appeared to be the shadows of my pads pattern from applying the wax. I went back with the towel and with the light still on wiped the offending areas to remove these "trails" which cleared them up right away due to the polymers being repositioned I suppose. Anyway, looking forward to getting the car finished and rolling it out into the sun soon (if the weather will cooperate).

Looks fantastic already, Mongoose - even without the wax.

Thanks, it's taken me 4 of the last 5 weekends to get it where it is now due to going painfully slow with learning the ropes with the d/a. With Valentines Day next weekend I guess I won't be working on it until the next weekend.

Re: Tried out Ultimate Polish and wax this weekend

I just did my yellow '03 Corvette Z06, with Ultimate Polish then followed with the Ultimate Liquid Wax. The yellow really pops! Incredible shine, depth, super slick, it's unbelievable. I used my Meguiars G110v2, & taped off the mouldings and emblems. The polish was time consuming, doing small sections at a time, but well worth the time & effort.

In the Saturday detail class @ Meguiars, Michael Stoops say's the polish is an "optional" step. Don't believe that, its mandantory if you want your car to stand out from the rest!

Any advantage using the liquid vs. the wax or visa versa?
Or is it pretty much personal preferance?

Here's my Vette, just done with Ultimate Polish then Liquid Ultimate Wax last week. Today I quickly laid down a coat of the Ultimate Paste Wax, using the 4" pad on the G110v2. Its very quick and easy, simply lay the pad in the can to pick up more wax! Michael Stoops suggested this method, and it sure works great! With the 12 hour cure time, the car will look even better tomorrow!

                              Ouch.

Meguiar's official stance has always been the application of a "pure polish" is an optional step. But Ultimate Polish is not a "pure polish" since it does have some SMAT abrasives in it - it is, after all, derived from M205. And since M205 came out we've been big proponents, both as an organization and me personally, of using it to achieve maximum clarity and gloss. We've often suggested using it here on MOL when someone is looking for maximum reflectivity, clarity and gloss but are struggling to get that last little bit out of the paint. Again, purely from a personal perspective, I've often referred to M205 as my favorite product in our entire lineup.
