  • what does auto dry do to nxt

ok, I got an mr clean auto dry for my birthday....wasn't sure if I was going to use it, but my wife came home from work last night at 11:30 pm with an egged car. I wasn't going to wait to get the egg off so I figured what the heck lets try the auto dry. It worked fine, but when I pulled the car into the garage it reminded me of a car with no wax. You know, that one giant sheet of water with no beads. it got me to think, what is this product doing to my wax? anyone got an answer on that? is it safe? I have to admitt that the car did look pretty good this morning.
now as a side question, it says you have to use their soap, I'm thinking it's really the filters that are doing the work and that I could use megs soap instead of theirs. can any one help with this?

I don't see why you couldn't use any soap - from what i read on the Mr. Clean is that it is the filter that takes impurities out of the water for a spot clean rinse. In less their soap has something in it for a spot free finish, when it is on rinse isn't it just water coming through? Try using it on just rinse - if no spots i would think it the filter that does the trick - not the soap.

      Hi 2000,

I have read on another forum that Mr. Clean posts to that the soap does in fact include some type of ingredient to force the water to sheet off. Some people have complained of a residual film on their windows afterwards.

I don't know if that's true or not, but if there was a film on the windows, it's probably on everything, it's just they could only see it on the windows because their clear.

      Just a guess....

Besides that, how did you like it overall?

        thanks guys,
I keep going back and forth if I liked it. when I pulled in in the garage last night I hated it because of the thought that I just stripped off my wax........when I saw it this morning I kind of changed my mind and thought " that does look pretty good". I'll wait to make a final judgement untill it rains or I wash it again to see what it did do to my wax job.
hey Mike....just between you and me does meguiars have anything like this in the works? don't worry...I'll keep it a secert!

as a side note when I run out of their soap (it only has enough for 2-3 washes) I will try my cold class wash and post my results here.

My son has used the Mr. Clean and found the same problem with the windows (leading me to Mike's conclusion: it's everywhere). That issue aside, it really does dry virtually spot free and looks good on his gold Jeep. I tried using NXT wash followed by the deionized rinse on a black BMW and found it "OK", but the water did not sheet as well *** when using the Autodry soap and it took forever to dry, leaving some residual spotting easily touched up with a damp WW towel. Frankly, NXT followed by a no-nozzel rinse leaves relatively little water on the car which is easily dried with your choice of toweling/chamois, making it quicker in the long run. I'm sticking with the traditional.

ok, I tried both gold class and soft gel wash in the auto dry with results that you would expect with a regular wash. so just as a comparason I used the auto dry soap on my black truck and it keep its promise to dry spot free, but there was a coating or film on the windows and there was a "few" spots here and there. so to sum it up..If you care enough about detailing that your reading these forums, you probably don't mind taking the extra time to get it right with out short cuts.
besides the sooner your done washing your car the sooner your done doing what you enjoy!

for anyone that is interested.....I washed my vehicles again the traditional way and no stripping of wax seemed to occer as I said I was afarid of earlier. However it occered to me one very big problem with the auto dry system...as you have to use the soap in the sprayer you don't dip you wash mitt in a bucket so you never get the advantage of getting contaminates off your mitt, you just keep rubbing it all over your vehicle. can't believe I didn't think of that the frist time. just something to think about!

I have had one of these all summer. I get mixed results. Yes its good for a quick wash. I basically got it because I was frustrated drying my car by hand and competing with the sun. Plus it seems to use less water. It may not make a difference to everyone, but here we have water restrictions.

I noticed this too about not rinsing you mits, a little too late. I still use a bucket though, and wash my mit in it between sections.

I too am looking to use meguiars soap in this. I bought some NXT wash that I will use as soon as the rest of my mr clean soap is gone.

To me it was sort of a novelty thing, now its starting to wear off and I am thinking about ditching it.

I tired it once and wasn't impressed at all. That said, I cleaned it out thoroughly and removed all the Mr. clean car wash soap. I now use it to clean my dog. It works really well with his shampoo because the Vet recommended that we dilute it to make it less potent. Also I am using the filtered water as a last rinse down. He seems to have a reduced problem with dry skin after.
Might submit some photo's in the future .

Like the idea, if it works for you great! I keep thinking about picking one up to test it out but if I don't like it what do I do with it? Now I know! But one question... Does your dog dry spot free?

A few of my friends got it and I thought about getting one, but in the end decided not too. I'd only use it for the "spot free rinse" but since the filter ($) has to be replaced every so often & using my MF towels is free, well that's how I came to my conclusion

                          ~One mans opinion / observations~

This is what I use for a ‘spot-free’ and ‘film’ wash/rinse and use whatever car wash concentrate you want to

                          Water Filtration:
Use a filter unit to provide spot-free vehicle washing and/or to remove chemicals and chlorine ((PW-SOF Sodium) from your vehicle washing hose. Utilizing standard softener resin, with a life span of approx. 90 gallons (dependant on water hardness / chemical content) between regenerations, a standard filter cartridge (9.75-inch x 2.5-inch) is contained in a clear polyurethane filter housing allowing you to see when the filter requires changing, unit connections are standard ¾-inch hose fittings, complete with a filter wrench and mounting bracket. .

The filter resin (PW-SOF) can be regenerated indefinitely using readily available water softening salt. Place the used cartridge in a container with the water softening salt / water solution and soak for 12-hours or more. The salt will displace the calcium replacing it with sodium. With two filter cartridges you can use one while the other is in the regenerating solution. Other filters available (PW-CAL) Neutralize the pH (Calcite) (KX-1) Chorine removal (Garden hose filter)

                          ~Hope this helps~
