NXT Wax 2.0 and UQW after rain - why it's so?

Hi,

I applied NXT Wax 2.0 about 4 - 6 weeks ago and then every 2 weeks UQW after wash.
Now we got rain and I expected way better water beading in rain. Car is parked in garage for 5 min after drive in moderate rain.




No, size of water beads are less 1/2 inch.
However, this is side / door of car and I expect to not see some much water on vertical.
Do I expect too much from NXT 2.0 and UQW follow ups?

I'm not getting beading near as I seen on Meg's videos.

I havent seen the videos I dont think, but I dont get much beading from a regular rain.

Unless you are flodding the water like that or driving at 40 mph then you will not see that kind of sheeting or beading. I commute to college each day so when it rains before I go to school, I arrive at school and my car is already dry while everyone's else's has waterspots.

Rainfall has a totally different behavior vs. hosing/wash. Washes/hosing is a lot more focused, while rainfall is a lot more scattered/spread out and rainfall can sometimes be too light to induce the insane beading you see on some videos. A large part of the reason you see that insane beading is not just the water falling on the paint, but the water being sprayed (pressure) on to the paint. The pressure from the hose gives the water enough momenteum to cause it not just to bead but to slide of the waxed surface.

Today i got to watch my NXT'd car (the hood, while it was raining hard while stuck in traffic). The water beads on the hood aren't like the ones on some youtube vids, but more like building up as big clumps or puddle-like. It continues, builds up, and then rolls off as big clumps, sort of like collapsing under its own weight leaving a relatively spot free finish. Kinda amusing to watch.

ALso, not having too much beading (but with protection) has its advamtage. Water sheeting prevents water spots, and as you flood rinse your car it sheets nicely, requiring less wipe time.

Hydrophobic Polymer technology.. i guess it can be interpreted in many ways. Sheeting to prevent water spots, or beading to allow the water to roll of the finish. Maybe whatever way of repelling water that works, and which leaves a cleaner finish after all that rain/puddle comes to attack our cars..

I use Gold Class or Ult Wash/Wax and always follow up with UQW and I get spectacular beeding while parked and I wish I had a video to show it sheering off at speed. Especially on my Trans Am when I punch it from 20 roll to 80 MPH highway blast.

When your driving, in the rain, the water does sheet off and the Hydrophobic tech does exactly that, the water stays ON the surface, beeds are smaller as due to the sheering effect from the rain.

I will mention the ONLY time I have seen the Hydrophobic tech dimish was due to having a car parked under a tree and its pollent or environmental contamination getting on the paint. Once washed though, it came right back.

Another thing to think about is that the water getting thrown on the car from the street also contains the dirt from that street. Dirty water is going to stick much better than clean. As for the picture, the beading looks pretty good to me. You could also try using UQW after every wash instead of every couple weeks.

Another thing to think about is that the water getting thrown on the car from the street also contains the dirt from that street. Dirty water is going to stick much better than clean. As for the picture, the beading looks pretty good to me. You could also try using UQW after every wash instead of every couple weeks.

I wash my cars every other or even 3 weeks
I don't do it every week. Every week or as needed I just clean windshield.

The images look like they were taken following a drive in the rain, is that right?

This shot looks like it's got the windblown effect down the side, plus some trickle down after the car stopped.



If that is indeed the case then you won't see large beads on the side no matter what you use as the air movement is blowing the water off the car. The video you linked to is showing a large volume of water streamed onto a horizontal surface, not splashed onto it like rain would do, or even rinsing with a spray of water. On that very same car in the video we guarantee you that if you sprayed it down with a nozzle you would not get that level of sheeting. Take a look at the the Quik Tip Video on washing and you'll see how an initial rinse leaves plenty of beads, but a follow up rinse with an open hose (like in the YouTube video) sheets the water off the hood.

Yes, I took pics right after driving in rain then car was parked in garage and pics were taken - may be 3-5 min after car was in garage.

I'm simple consumer and that's why I asked question for this matter as I expected something different based on your NXT 2.0 video.
Sure, I didn't know about water flow vs spray - I just expected result regardless how water was applied (dummy consumer).

Now, I'll try to use water flow after pressure rinse of my cars ;-)

proper education is the key - IMHO.
How many consumers knows difference between use flow vs stream / mist / spray?

I wouldn't be to concerned with the beading yet, but i would be more concerned about how shiny the car is after washing it vs. how it looks when it was newly waxed amd how easy it was to clean. Maybe that is the point of the hydrophobic polymer tech.. Not just about beading, but how easily all that grime and dirt washes off after washing. But of course, i understand your concern.. i also like to see insane water beading regardless of the type of water or spray or mist or direction of water spray..
