Actually, it's not that much. I always use a 1:2 ratio of soap and water. So, when I dilute my car wash solution I would get, 1/3 soap and 2/3 water. So, let's say using NO tip, 1:12 ratio, which would be about 10.67oz (soap) per gallon (128oz) of water.

So, if I am only putting 1/3 the soap (as listed), I will be looking at about 3.5oz per gallon of water.

I got the Griots foam gun for Christmas. It came with three colored nozzles but the Griot's added instructions says you adjust due to water pressure. The yellow one's nozzle diameter is smallest.

I hope I get a chance to use it next week.

It is an all plastic design (looks just like Adam's one and Chemical Guys one). I had a Gilmour a while back but traded it. It comes with three nozzles that control the metering (no sliding bar thing like the Gilmour). You insert these in the inlet tube in the bottle so obviously not something you change. They recommended the "blue" one. I found the dilutions on MOL that associate with each nozzle. I used the blue one.


Net: It works....


Advantages: Fun soap waster.


Concerns: All plastic but about 1/2 the price of a Gilmour. My guess it could not survive a drop but does come with Griot's warranty.


The car was just coated in road salt but it did seem to clean up nicely with just the soap rinse.


Soap used in the pic: Optimum a 4:1 dilution. I think I can use even less.


It generated a lot of frothy foam ...by the time I got the camera it had dribble off...note around car.

Here is a simple video of playing with a Griot's Foam gun and Optimum Car Wash at 1:6 dilution in the container.

I was trying to see if I could hold the Canon steady, point the foam gun, and move around using it. I miss the viewfinder.


For the soap expended, it costs less under a $1 so pretty cheap entertainment compared to some things even if you do not think it really helps.

Theres one thing I never understood about foam guns.
What makes the foam so special?
Why not just use the two bucket wash method and wring out your mitt onto your car, covering it in suds prior to washing using direct contact with the mitt?

Well, the foam slows down the run off time.

So I figure that if I shoot foam across a door for instance, there is still a film of suds (and more importantly, a film of lubrication) over the entire panel the entire time I wipe with the mitt. Might be a minimal difference, but I feel better.

But people use them different ways. Some folks also like a bit of a pre-soak with the foam, esp in the winter. I just use it like the normal washing method, panel by panel, with soap from the gun instead of a bucket.
