  • my 3rd G110 V2 gone bad ... seriously

Words cant express how I feel at this point and the dollars invested in these machines make this alleged "professional grade" tool a total BUST!
First purchased the "NEW and IMPROVED" DA in late November ... the power cord goes bad in Feb 2010, I purchase a back up G110 V2 as I cant be down and send the bad one back .... In July the first replacement breaks and I send it back and am advised by a rep that they are aware of the issue and they have made the correct modifications in the shroud and a new batch from March 2010 will be sent to me. Knowing the life of the second machine is inevitable it goes from the backup machine to my production machine .... 6 full details later (yesterday) it goes out .... darn power cord! AGAIIIIINNNNN!!!
So now I will be using my machine that has a production date of 3/2010 as my daily use machine and we'll see how it handles .... but at this point I am convinced Megs machines are seriously less than stellar.
The free no questions asked replacement is nice and all but at the expense of additional shipping costs to and fro, it doesn't make it worth it.
When I get my new machine I will leave it unopened and un used and put it on craigslist and buy the new Griots DA.

and before anyone goes on about "how it's stored" I wrap it in the bag it came in with the power cord loosely wrapped .... it just amazes me how this kind of flaw could not have been caught by their R&D department

I think if mine ever goes out I'll just get a PC 7424 XP. Cheaper, too. But, I've had mine since last October or so, done 5 full details and a couple spot buffs with it, and have had no issues with it so far, so I'm trying to remain hopeful it won't go kaplut.

What's also interesting is that I talked with Tim and he advised Megs of the issue but with all the units that have been sold at what point does a recall come into play? I thinking about you Shane as I promise it will happen soon and at this rate you only have another 2 months becuaes it only has a year warranty....

I hear this same argument concerning the Griots machine (of which I own) sorry to hear of this unfortunate situation. For every 1 horror story, there are 500 giving praise. Go figure

The Porter Cable is damn near bullet proof. Mine has been through all sorts of wear and tear and has 3 years of use in it and still works like new.

            I highly recommend it.

              Re: my 3rd G110 V2 gone bad ... seriously

I had the same problem with my new Megs machine that I purchased in March about 6 details with machine, and bam the cord issue developes, and I take good care of cord, over shoulder, do not pull, loose wrap!! So I have to spend MY money to send in to obtain the replacement, which I finally receive 2 weeks later! For now it is working 10 times better than the last one ever did the rotation seems much much better, but if it goes again I will have to pay again? With in the year? "SEE bottom" Yes Groits is also having this same problem!!! MY next purchase I wish would be AMERICAN MADE HERE FOR MORE JOBS!!!!!!! Can not find any made here so the next one will probably be a Flex!!!! When monies become available!!

I've only done 30 or so details with my 7424 XP, but it hasn't given me any issues at all. I could be wrong, but I thought at one time the Meg's DA was a "re-branded" Porter Cable.

How is it priced against the PC? Is there any reason for not looking at the PC?

Just curious as many here and on other forums that have had great results with the 7242 XP.

                        Have faith

I realize that you may have had the worst luck in the world with the pre 2010 models, but you have been assured changes have been made and now you have the current production model.

If I'm reading it correctly, he had a "fixed" machine that broke again. All I know is, if my PC/G100A ever goes, I'll probably sell the G110 I get and use the money to buy a Flex.

Correct I purchased the g100v2 on the first batch 11/09 and it failed in February. Got slammed on here for not having a back up so consequently I order a new one from ADS, it arrives and I send mine to megs to be repaired. Keep in mind that I now have in my hand 2 machines from the first production run. I use those a bit and the first one fails in July and I send it in to find out they are aware of the problem and have fixed it with machines from their second production run dated 3/10 and I get the new one. I keep the new prod one unused and use my other machine as I know it will fail and 6 details later it's DOnE. So now this one is going back and I'm using the 3/1/ production machine full time. We'll see how long it lasts.

I have two G100v2's, one early build date and one a little younger (but before the 'update'.

I have about 50 or so paint corrections on my main V2 and have had zero problems. In fact the build quality (to me) is far better than anything I have personally tried in the ROB market.

I really think (based on my experience) that you have just gotten two bad eggs and have bad luck. I am very hard on my DA's, and usually do atleast 3-4 correction steps (running the machines with little break for 12 hours) and my experience has been stellar.
