  • water based product for rubber trim?

which meg's product is water based and can be used on exterior rubber trim.... e.g. trim around side mirrors, moonroof

my side mirror rubber is dry from the sun. and i heard solvent based products can break down rubber over the long run.

I've never experienced that, but if you feel more comfortable going with water based, there is hyper dressing or water-based dressing for the exterior. I personally love hyper dressing.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

I believe we have been told Ultimate Protectant is water based. I have used it on the exterior trim and love it! It has some kind of molecular bonding aspect that makes it stick and not run in the rain.

If you have any exterior textured vinyl or plastic trim that is sun faded, then Ultimate Protectant is your best choice. It does wonders restoring this sort of trim and contains specialized polymers that allow it to bond to the surface and not just run off in the rain.

These two shots are from a recent Thursday Night Open Garage where this product was applied to the badly faded bumpers of a Jeep Cherokee.

Just remember that a little goes a very long way, and to work the product very thoroughly into the surface. It is a bit unique that way.

Ultimate Protectant works really well; I recently tried it on my 4runner and the plastic trims still look refreshing after a entire week of rain!
