  • Scratch X & Ultimate Compound = A Perfect Match (Pics Included)

I just tried using Scratch X & Ultimate Compound for the first time on my 4Runner; the result is AMAZING!

    Using Ultimate Compound...

    Using Scratch X 2.0...

The before/after panels show the paint just looking cleaner and whiter after using UC. How old is the 4Runner? Sure looks like it was suffering from embedded dirt that was really dulling down the color. That kind of thing happens so gradually over time that you almost don't notice it. But in pretty short order while applying UC it becomes pretty apparent!

Nice work, and we're glad you're so happy with our products.

Ah, a prime example of why these products are also known as paint cleaners

      Great work!

Great pics. If that is not a testament to these products ability. I don't know what is.

          Thanks.

          My 4Runner is a 1999.

Actually, I first started off claying the paint embedded dirt (using Meguiar's Clay Kit of course) but it took me FOREVER to get the dirt off; so I decided to try Ultimate Compound and it made it so much easier to rub the area. My entire Quik Foam Pad turned black after finishing only ONE door.

I am going to wait until next weekend to finish Ultimate Compound the rest of the vehicle; one thing does worry me is that my 4Runner's hood never gets cool enough for anything to be applied on top of it... I wash and wax my car @ a car washing place which involves me driving there and makes my hood kind of hot. Still trying to figure out a way to cool off my hood right before applying Ultimate Compound and wax in the hood area.

          Any idea?

Hi, I have a big problem with UC. I just used it on my hood to remove some tiny scratches and oxidation. It took me forever to take off, it left some haze on my paint. I ended up using swirlX to remove the haze, but there were still some haze on the paint. Do you have this problem? Thank you.

            I wash
            clay bar
UC ( microfiber pad for this)

How old is your car? (Some pics may help...)

How much Ultimate Compound did you use on your paint? Remember, a little UC goes a long way (or any Meguiar's product for that matter.) If you applied too much product on your paint or even apply it directly under a hot sun, there may be some negative results in your paint.

Also, don't forget to fully wax your car after using UC or Swirl X.

Hi dudes, do you know what is the difference between Swirl X and Scratch X? And can we use scratch x instead of Meguiar's smooth surface clay kit too?? Thank you..

Re: Scratch X & Ultimate Compound = A Perfect Match (Pics Included)

Scratch X is more Aggressive then Swirl X and for Reference Ult Compound is rougher then them both.

As for the Claybar Question. Claybar is used to safely remove surface contaminants on top/embedded in the clear coat. It does not repair scratches or swirls. You use your SwirlX/ScratchX/Compound based on the needs of the car.

Here is a Pic of a 2002 Trans Am Spoiler. A customer who recent got the car had a previous owner who never took care of the car AT ALL. Very heavy Swirl and Haze. I took Ult. Compound, Applied and Buffed with a Terry Cloth Towel. I was very amazed with the results. The next morning, the car had some dew on the paint and the buffed side was SMOOTH as glass, the Dew on the UN-done side show all the ****..... here are the pics....

Swirl X is typically used on swirl marks; Scratch X is for light and medium scratches on your paint or even door handles; Ultimate Compound is for heavy embedded dirt (like in my case), major scratches(in some cases), oxidation removal, etc. To range from weakest to strongest of the 3 products, Swirl X < Scratch X < Ultimate Compound.

Meguiar's Clay Kit only remove surface embedded contaminant which makes your paint smooth but doesn't typically remove major scratches. I always clay my paint first BEFORE using Swirl X/Scratch X/Ultimate Compound.

I have a 1996 Acura RL. I worked in my garage, so i know it cool for sure. BTW do you suggest to wipe the product down with microfiber or 100% terry towl? I think I need to redo the hood lol.

Microfiber towel is better than Terry towel for sure since Microfiber is more "dense", softer to touch, and has less chance of trapping contaminant when you wiping across your paint.

For me, I use medium quality Microfiber towel for Ultimate Compound/Scratch X, and use a PREMIUM quality Microfiber towel when detailing w/ NXT Tech 2.0 Liquid Wax. I recently bought some ICE branded Microfiber Towels Pack from Walmart (since I can't seem to find Meguiar's MF towels in stores) just for waxing.

Yea, me too I couldn't find any Meguair microfiber towel or foam pad at any store! BTW did you use the DA or work by hand. I think I need to buy the DA to detail my MDX too!

I think by hand produces fine results; No need to use DA.
