Just a couple of quick questions. Does the standard consumer clay bar remove all bugs? Can you over-lubricate when using the clay bar?

You normally wouldn't use a clay bar to remove bugs, you would want to do that in your washing process. There may be small amounts of residual bug left behind that is stuck to the paint, and that would be ok to use the clay bar with.

You never want to work on a dry surface, so there should always be an ample amount of lubricant on the surface, but don't over-use Quick Detailer, not because you can over lubricate, but because it just wastes product. Make sure you have enough for the bar to be gliding along the surface and you should be good to go!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

If you can't remove all the bugs with a regular wash, first try letting a wet towel sit on them as soften them up. If you want to save money you could get away with using water. If you want to use product Quik Detailer will work great.

There is a product from the Detailer line D-130 Body Solvent that you can spray on the bug let dwell and then rinse.

I'd try to get as many bugs off as possible before claying. Clay is expensive and you don't want to contaminate your clay any more than necessary.

Hate to sound obvious. What about a bug and tar remover to remove bugs?

Yes, I am just out of bug and tar remover and I have a car scheduled for tomorrow. The only reason I was asking about over lubricating is because I did a 2004 Escalade a couple of weeks ago that had NEVER been waxed and I didn't feel hardly anything coming off with clay, I found this odd because I usually have no problems with clay on my car. Thanks for the tips I have also been reading about other ways to remove bugs without actual bug remover.

I live in SF, California and this time of year, within hours of washing, a car parked outside will have multiple small yellow-orange little flat "splats" on the trunk, roof, and hood of the car.
The Meguiar's customer service rep said those are bug related. My local retailers don't stock Meg's bug and tar remover so I ordered a couple of bottles from Meg's direct. Hopefully this stuff will work ,and I can use it on a daily basis.

Bug and Tar Remover will remove wax.... so not sure about the daily basis.

You could look up the 'dryer sheet' method of removing bugs, and see if it removes wax.
