Scratch X Question

Has Scratch X been reformulated since it's introduction? I have one of the earlier tubes and it says in the directions to let it dry before removing. I know that today it is recommended to remove it before it dries.

When I first got it I did let it dry before removal. No problem unless it was very humid, then removal was more difficult. I was just wondering if the formula and hence the directions changed.

When I first went to work for Meguiar's as a writer here at the Corporate office, one of the things I did was write label copy. It's actually pretty hard in that you have a limited amount of real-estate to work with. This forces the all the copy to be tweaked and fined tuned to be the best it can be. Writing the directions on the back of the label is difficult because you pretty much have to bubba-proof them. Then they go through a review process where a variety of different department must proof-read them and approve them. Believe it or not, even when multiple eyes proof-read small amounts of copy like that found on a label, it's still possible for mistakes to get by. It's a hard job in it's own way and one that requires good attention to detail. Anyway, I wasn't around when the first round of labels were written so I don't know the story behind the directions that stated to let the product dry, but it was an honest mistake and after it was discovered the labels were changed and a what is called a rolling change was made for those labels.

ScratchX removes easiest when removed before it dries and when it has not been heated for most people. People with good skills and quality removal cloths can get away with more.

ScratchX is a great product once you understand how it's supposed to be worked against the finish. I found many people using it like a pure polish or wax and merely wiping it on and then wiping it off only to be dismayed that the defect they were trying to remove was still present. That's because they didn't remove any paint and the reason they didn't remove any paint was because they didn't work the product against the finish and they stopped after one application. Upon discovering this trend among dissatisfied users on multiple discussion forums, it led me to write this little how to article.

* Real-Estate
Real-Estate is a term used by copywriters to describe the available space for words, (copy), on the label of a container.

* Rolling Change
Rolling Change is a term used to describe a change that is to be implemented as old stock is depleted. If a change is needed urgently, then the current stock is removed from the manufacturing/assembly process and then new product is implemented immediately.

Being in manufacturing myself, I know very well about rolling changes. Comes with the territory, so it's not a big issue for me.

Meguairs does reformualte products from time to time as new technology and processes become available. IMHO that's a good thing! Since my bottle of Scratch X is older I was just wondering if there had been any changes to it to make it more or less aggressive, etc. It has not changed in appearance and still works fine so it must still be OK. It amazes me that a product can sit on the shelf that long and still be OK.

Since I have a PC and products like MPPC, #83, #82, and now #80, I don't use Scratch X very much. But now I need to do some touch up swirl removal and don't feel like getting out the PC. Plus I just washed my car and the garage floor is still wet and full of dirt etc. Getting the PC out doesn't seem like such a great idea right now. Plus I wanted to get 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax on the rear fenders of my car before Monday. So it seems like a good time to use Scratch X.
