  • ColorX Application Advice

I would like to try some ColorX on a friend's car, light green, five to six years old. I'm only doing this for buffer practice, a quick nice shine and some protection, no corrective work. So ColorX followed by NXT 2.0. This is after a nice gentle wash and a complete clay.

The ColorX bottle says cover the entire car then remove. Any advice? Murr, you and J.A. often mention using ColorX. It sounds similar to working with NXT, except work it a bit.

I would be using a PC and Meguiar's polishing and finishing pads.

    Thanks,

Yes, I'd obviously try the polishing pad with the COLOR X on the DA. You might be surprised, it might do some light defect removal. I believe COLOR X asks to leave it on because it is a wax/protection too.

Since you are using NXT afterwards, I imagine you could go either way on it. I'd just remove COLOR X whenever it's easy to remove, since you will follow with NXT protection.

I would apply the color-x to the whole car. Then do the swipe test. Remove. It should do a little bit of correction for you.

ColorX is an AIO product, it will remove light scratches and swirls marks. Also it's a wax so it will protect your paint. You would apply, work the product and let it sit till is ready to remove like any wax.

Yeah, apply working it in a bit, then let dry.

First let me say that I am a total novice and find ColorX extermely easy to use.

I am so pleased with this product that I have incorporated it into my standard wax regimen (wash/clay/colorx/nxt).

When applying ColorX, I use the G110v2 with the black Meg's pad on speed 3. I do the whole car, do the swipe test, then remove.

I have two cars, one black, the other silver. While I like it on both cars, it really is amazing on the black.

Thanks all for the advice. My first shipment of Meguiar's pads has arrived, plenty of blacks and yellows. Now I just have one thing to work out, getting the rain to stop!!

              Thanks again,

ColorX is a cleaner and wax in one. As such, the cleaners need to be worked against the paint with some level of passion in order to do their job. A non cleaner wax such as NXT Tech Wax 2.0, M26, Gold Class, etc won't really benefit from an aggressive application, but ColorX will. Since these cleaners aren't as aggressive as, say, Ultimate Compound, you aren't going to work them quite as aggressively either. So your application of ColorX falls somewhere between what you'd do for a regular wax and what you'd do for a paint cleaner.

Paint cleaners are not supposed to dry on the surface, but waxes are. So, with a cleaner wax that serves both functions, which is it? To dry, or not to dry? The cleaners are a bit specialized for use in a wax product, but the wax component still needs to dry and bond to the paint. So apply ColorX to all the a painted surfaces of the vehicle, using a bit of passion, and then let it dry. And it should dry very quickly. By the time you're done working it to the entire vehicle, the point where you started should be fully dry and ready to wipe off.

                  Re: ColorX Application Advice

Thanks for the in depth description of the use of ColorX. Very briefly, I'm retiring and wish to give my administrative assistant a gift of a clean, shining car (a maltreated daily driver). All the while solidifying my 30 rating on the Stoops Scale before attempting a clean up on another friend's garage queen Camaro (which he only runs though auto-washes). I'm hoping both will consist of two bucket wash with Gold Class, clay with Quik Detailer, clean/wax with ColorX using a PC set on three and one coat of NXT on the daily driver and if time permits two coats on the garage queen. Backwards on the wax perhaps, but I'm time limited on the daily driver and will only be able to do one coat. If time permits they both may get a lickin' of SwirlX and/or Ultimate Compound. (lickin' - quick once over to scare off some swirls)

I'll give them both bottles of my favorite product, Ultimate Quik Detailer, when all done.

Thanks again. I'm looking forward to the experience with ColorX, if it ever stops raining!!
