Depends what you like really.

I like to have 3 Water Magnets around to dry a car. Plus old towels for the dirty areas.

I think the Chamois followed by a Water magnet is a popular combo.

If they are clean/cared for, they should be fine.

You can always use more of a blotting technique to reduce risks further.

Not just with drying but with anything related with detailing always work clean. This means clean surface, clean pads, clean mf towels, everything you use. If you to have them clean then you would be fine.
